This lovely family from Wales visited us and left their message in Welsh; not English.

For many of us, Wales is associated with Britain, so we naturally expect English. But Welsh is a completely different language, with its own history, sound and identity. Looking at their guest-book note, you can immediately see how different it is.

It reminded me a little of how Sinhala and Hindi may belong to the same broader part of the world, yet look and sound entirely different. 😊

Another visit, another language, another small lesson about how wonderfully diverse our world is.

From Sudan to Nandana; with smiles all around!

This lovely doctor mother visited us with her three children, bringing warmth, laughter and wonderful company. At NTF, it no longer surprises us when visitors leave delighted, but every happy face still means the world to us.

No matter which corner of the globe they come from, we enjoy their company, and they enjoy a few memorable hours at Nandana.

Sometimes, modern marketing and the NTF way do not perfectly agree; and perhaps that is part of our charm.

We recently welcomed a young undergraduate marketing intern, full of fresh ideas and enthusiasm. She has suggested several improvements to modernise and refine our present setting. One observation was that our tea-tasting sessions are often conducted near the Tea Centre pantry, where staff occasionally pass through while serving other guests.

From a modern marketing perspective, this may seem less polished. Yet our overseas visitors often embrace precisely this natural, unfiltered atmosphere. They do not merely observe NTF—they experience a living, working tea centre as it truly is.

Yesterday, a Pakistani couple described the experience in Urdu as “something out of the world.” Even during the quieter tourist season, amid high travel costs and uncertainty in the Middle East, visitors continue to find their way to us.

Today, we welcomed Ali from the UAE, a Pakistani doctor couple and their family, and a visitor from the USA—all leaving with warm appreciation for Nandana.

We will certainly learn, improve and evolve—but without losing the authenticity, simplicity and personal warmth that make NTF what it is.

Trends may change. Genuine hospitality never goes out of style.

Today, the world celebrates a simple leaf, in fact two leaves and a bud …
but for us at Nandana, tea is far more than a beverage.

Time paused… then started ticking again ⏳🍃

From mid-March, the flow of visitors slowed…
but with April, we began to feel a quiet return,
not a rush, but a gentle rhythm… enough to keep the scoreboard ticking.

And then came this lovely couple from Japan.

What caught their attention wasn’t just our tea…
but a piece of time itself, our 112-year-old wall clock, still ticking with pride.

This clock has its own story.
It was first hung on the opening day of “Maha Kade” in 1914,by Mr. D. A. Wanigasekara Mohotti (grandpa of owner of NTF), a place that once stood as a true “supermarket” of its era, offering everything from groceries to hardware…the largest of its kind outside Matara in those days.

More than a century later, it still stands. Still ticks. Still connects.

And what made the moment even more special our Japanese guests smiled and said, “Mercury… this brand is still made in Japan.”

A small clock…bridging 112 years, two nations, and countless stories.

At Nandana, even time becomes a guest. ❤️

Same smiles… same cap… same connection 🍃🙂

This may not be the peak tourist season.
With winter behind, rising airfares and global uncertainties, the flow of visitors has slowed…

But moments like this remind us what truly matters.

This lovely couple walked in this morning.. something about them felt familiar.
And yes… they had been here before April 2023.

Three years later, they return.
Same warmth, same smiles… and interestingly,
I seem to be wearing the very same cap again. 😊

Some things change with time…
but genuine connections don’t.

At Nandana, it’s never just about the first visit;
it’s about the memories that bring you back.

Yesterday at NTF… the world met over a cup of tea 🌍🍃

A young group of travelers from Israel found themselves in a bit of difficulty during their journey, running short of fuel.

When I heard they were here, I came down expecting to see worried faces…
Instead, I found them calm, relaxed, and enjoying their tea as if nothing had happened. ☕🙂

Around the same time, another set of visitors from Russia had just signed our guest book; from a completely different part of the world, with a completely different story.

Different countries… different journeys… sometimes even different perspectives,
yet here they all were, under one roof, sharing the same space, the same warmth, the same cup of tea.

And interestingly, both the Russian and Israeli guests agreed on one simple truth:
“Nandana is the best.” ❤️

In a world that often speaks of differences…
we quietly witness something else,
how tea brings people together.

Just look at today’s guest book… what a beautiful blend of the world! 🌍

Different countries, different languages, different cultures.. yet all united by a shared moment over a cup of tea at Nandana Tea Factory.

This diversity is what makes our journey so vibrant and meaningful. At NTF, there are no boundaries of nationality, ethnicity, religion, or language… only smiles, stories, and friendships brewed together.

Some friendships are measured not by time… but by heart. ❤️

This is Roman Kowdale from the Czech Republic, my dear friend for nearly 20 years. After about 8 years, he visited us again at Nandana Tea Factory. Seeing him walk in brought back a flood of memories… laughter, journeys, and moments we shared across countries.

The small framed photo was taken in March 2013 — 13 years ago, when I visited him in the Czech Republic. Life has moved on, time has changed us, but true friendship remains untouched.

When Roman first came to Sri Lanka years ago, he hadn’t seen another Czech person here. Today, places like Meddewatta in Matara feel almost like a little Prague, how the world changes in beautiful ways.

Health may not always allow us the time we wish for… but moments like these become even more precious.
Friendship, memories, and gratitude — that is what truly matters.

A Visitor from a Truly Unique Place!

Today we had a delightful couple visit us from a country many people have never heard of – Jersey, in the Channel Islands.

Jersey is a fascinating little island with a very special status. Although it comes under the British Crown, it is not part of the United Kingdom. The island has its own elected government, its own laws, its own judiciary system, and even its own currency. Britain is responsible only for its defense and international relations.

In many ways, Jersey’s constitutional setup reminds us of old Ceylon – self-governed, proud, and independent in spirit while still connected to the Crown.

Their accent was different from what we normally recognize as British English, and learning about their homeland was a wonderful cultural exchange for us.

Imagine – an entire country with only about 106,000 people, yet such a rich identity and history!

Another day at NTF, another beautiful story from across the world 🌍
