Our journey commenced in 1980 when Gilbeys of London decided to establish its operations in Sri Lanka as Gilbeys Lanka Limited. Subsequently, the company was renamed ID Lanka Limited in 2004 after its controlling interest was acquired by East India Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. In January 2014, as part of a rebranding initiative and to better reflect our company's product offerings, the company was renamed

International Distillers Limited (IDL) to what it's known today. Over the years, IDL has emerged as one of Sri Lanka's leading corporates and a manufacturer and importer of quality spirits. With our diverse product portfolio and well-established brands, IDL has become synonymous with class and quality among its customers and partners. We are proud to state that IDL is the only hard liquor beverage manufacturer in Sri Lanka with a triple ISO certification for quality management, food safety management and environmental management systems certified by SGS. Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry marks a proud milestone with the launch of the 31st National Bartenders Competition at the official press conference. 🍸

Organized by SLHGA in collaboration with SLITHM, in partnership with IDL, the platform continues to shape bartending into a respected profession - nurturing young talent, encouraging innovation, and raising industry standards.

The President of SLHGA, Dr. Gitanjali Chakravarthy, highlighted how the competition has evolved into a nationally recognized benchmark that builds confidence, exposure, and globally competitive skills for emerging talent. Meanwhile, the Co-Chairman of IDL, Indhu Selvaratnam, emphasized the importance of celebrating Sri Lankan creativity, local ingredients, and the growing inclusivity within the industry.

With all six regional training sessions now complete, the stage is set for the next generation of mixologists to showcase their creativity and passion.
