The art of potential 🧬

25/03/2026

Most farmers don’t fail because their idea was bad… they fail because they couldn’t stay the course long enough to see it through.

Building a proper herd will test you in ways you don’t expect. There are seasons where nothing seems to move. Kids don’t grow as fast as you’d like. The numbers don’t add up yet. And from the outside, it can look like you’re going nowhere.

That’s usually when people start chopping and changing—new breeds, new systems, new shortcuts.

But a herd isn’t built in seasons of excitement. It’s built in the quiet, repetitive, often unseen work… year after year.

Selecting.
Culling.
Recording.
Breeding with intention.

Long before anyone else sees value in what you’re doing… you have to see it first.

You have to back your eye. Trust your decisions. Stay consistent when it would be easier to start over.

Because the real difference between those who build something meaningful and those who don’t…

Isn’t luck.
Isn’t timing.

It’s the ability to keep going when nothing around you is confirming that you should.

A good herd is not an accident.
It’s the result of someone who stayed when others would have walked away.

New Life on the Farm 🐣😁😁

We’re excited to introduce 5 Black Australorp chicks, naturally hatched under our Naked Neck hen.

This was intentional, our initial stock came from an incubator, but we want to strengthen natural brooding traits within our flock. So we kept our Naked Neck hen specifically for this purpose, to help us reintroduce and preserve strong maternal instincts in our breeding system.

Out of 11 eggs, 7 successfully hatched. We lost 2 during the hatch, which is never easy, but part of the reality of working with natural systems.

Watching a hen care for her chicks reminds us that good breeding is not only about growth and productivity, it’s also about instinct, resilience, and sustainability.

We’ll continue monitoring their development closely.

The foundation is being built step by step and we are excited to continue the journey šŸ˜€

A Difficult Week on the Farm, we have been fighting an unknown disease outbreak in our poultry flock.

Sadly we lost two of our Rhode Island Red (hens in that matter) one Black orpington is in critical condition now, although we are starting to see small signs of recovery. The rest of the flock are responding well to the prescribed treatmentšŸ™.

Losses like this are never easyšŸ’”. Every bird represents time, effort, and hope. But this is also part of livestock farming, especially when you are still building your systems and learning through experience.

We are currently monitoring the flock closely and strengthening our hygiene.

Challenges like these remind us that becoming a serious breeder requires more than good genetics🧬 it requires strong management, discipline, and continuous learning.

We remain committed to improving and documenting both the successes and the hard lessons.

The journey continues.
