Last week, the UNFPA Lesotho, together with its partners, visited Mapholaneng Health Centre to hand over a park home to the Lesotho Ministry of Health to house at least four expecting mothers.

This comes after an initial visit in 2025, where stakeholders identified a problem: a waiting mothers' home meant to house two expecting mothers had housed six, while others were accommodated in consultation rooms.

According to health officials, the limited space is one of the many reasons why 18 mothers in 2025 give birth at home, risking their lives and those of their babies.

To get a feel of what happened during the handover, watch the video below.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has continued its inquiry into the operations and financial affairs of the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH).

The inquiry took a dramatic turn on Wednesday after the committee, through its Chairperson, disclosed that it had summoned ’Mantsane Likotsi, who is alleged to have been working at the hospital using fraudulent professional credentials.

During her appearance, Likotsi allegedly confessed that she did not sit for the nursing licensure examination, which nurses are required to pass before they can practise professionally.

She further alleged that she obtained the certificate issued after the examination from the Nursing Council through the assistance of a political figure. However, she declined to disclose the individual's identity, citing alleged threats to her life.

The fraud case, in which Likotsi is a suspect, remains under investigation by the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).

📌Global HIV funding cuts threaten years of progress, but Lesotho stands out as a success story.

The country is among only 11 worldwide to have achieved the 95-95-95 HIV targets, while reducing new infections by more than 78% since 2010.

As international aid declines, Lesotho’s progress highlights the importance of sustained domestic investment and strong HIV treatment programmes.

LNIG Hollard says insured group risk benefits remain active, while acknowledging that delayed retirement contributions may affect the timing of investment and returns.
