According to a study published in the journal Cancer, researchers from the University of Seville in Spain found that an extract derived from eggplant (aubergine) peels significantly reduced the viability of melanoma (skin cancer) cells in laboratory experiments.

The scientists reported that the peel extract showed stronger anti-cancer activity than several conventional cancer drugs tested in the study, including hydroxyurea, oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and etoposide.

The researchers suggested that delphinidin, a natural anthocyanin pigment found in eggplant skin, may have contributed to this effect, although they noted that further studies were needed to identify the exact compound responsible for the cancer-cell-killing activity.
