A lovely video by Elena Chugreeva ():

'While traveling through Montenegro, we discovered a beautiful organic, family-run winery . The owners are incredibly kind people who inherited the estate and have been passionately growing their family business since 2020.

Their dedication to traditional winemaking is truly inspiring:

* 🌸 Rosé: Crafted from the local Kratosija grape using direct pressing (no maceration) for a fresh, crisp taste.
* 🥂 White Wine: A unique blend featuring Rkatsiteli grapes.
* 🍷 Red Wine: A rich combination of indigenous Vranac and Kratosija grapes.

Both the white and red wines undergo skin maceration and are aged in traditional clay amphorae (qvevri), followed by aging in oak barrels.

We were absolutely thrilled to walk through the vineyards, see the ancient amphorae with our own eyes, and visit their incredible 300-year-old house. 🌿

If you ever find yourself in Montenegro, you must visit this wonderful family!

📌 Tip for your visit: Be sure to call or message them in advance to book your stay. The hosts speak both English and Montenegrin.

Vineyard protection based on love, dedication, courage, dignity, truth and joy

Today, we want to open our gates and share a behind-the-scenes look at how we care for our vines, which are exposed to fungal diseases especially in downy, warm spring climate.

For us in the world of responsible viticulture, transparency is a key approach. At tastings we are asked how we manage the health of our grapes without resorting to harsh synthetic chemicals. We preventively defend our vines and in the end our harvest against fungal diseases with low key interventions.

A Natural Defense System

Instead of heavy industrial fungicides, we utilize a thoughtful, Demeter-approved approach. In this video, you are seeing us apply a preventive treatment based on a low-dose copper based agent to hold Downy mildew away. The maximum of total copper applied to 1ha (10.000m2) of vineyard per year must not exceed 3kg to meet Demeter standards. This limit translates compared to conventional fungal protection to courage.

But we don’t stop there. To minimize the amount of copper used and to boost the vine’s own immune system, we add a potent, natural ‘cocktail’:

• Equisetum arvensis (Field Horsetail) 🌿: We brew a tea from this ancient plant. It is rich in silica, which helps strengthen the outer ‘skin’ of the vine leaves, making it harder for fungi to take hold.

• Algae Extract: 🌊 Think of this as a multivitamin for the vineyard. These extracts provide essential trace elements and amino acids that reduce plant stress and improve resilience.

Why This Matters

By choosing a preventive rather than curative method, we work in harmony with the ecosystem. We aren’t just fighting fungi; we are nurturing a living environment. This dedication to biodynamic principles ensures that when you open a bottle of Jablan, you are tasting love, dedication, courage, dignity, truth and joy.

Did you know that teas could be used to protect a vineyard? Let us know in the comments!

Cheers to wine with a conscience!

Golden light over the karst. ☀️🌿

There is a quiet rhythm in our Rvaši estate as the sun dips below the hills. We keep our vineyard wild and lush, letting the grass grow tall between the vines to maintain a living, breathing ecosystem. This isn’t just farming; it’s a partnership with the Montenegrin landscape.

By practicing low-intervention farming, we ensure that the raw limestone mineralogy of this land is felt in every pour of our rosé and amphora wines.

From these sun-drenched rows to your glass, the transition is seamless.

At Jablan Winery, we don’t just grow wine; we cultivate life. Pure. Wild. Unapologetically Montenegrin. 🍷

Which of our wines would you pair with this sunset?

Nature's Most Focused Cellar Hand.

Look closely. That little red dot isn't just passing through.

In our vineyards at Skadar Lake, this ladybird is part of the team. Patrolling young shoots, keeping the canopy in check. No brief. No training. Just instinct, and a vineyard system that actually works.

Here's the thing about farming without synthetic pesticides: when you stop poisoning the land, the land starts protecting itself. You don't need a shelf full of sprays when you have a living, breathing army of beneficial insects doing the work for you. The soil wakes up. The biodiversity returns. And suddenly, the vineyard doesn't feel like a production site, it feels like a place, one single self-sustaining circle. That is the essence of committing to biodynamics.

Healthy canopy. Resilient fruit. Nothing to patch in the cellar.

We trust the ladybird in the field so we don't need additives in the bottle. Just the vine, which expresses the place we genuinely love.

This is where the magic starts. 🌀

Horn manure prep — hand-stirred, rhythm by rhythm, for a full hour. No shortcuts. Just intention, water, and the most alive soil amendment you’ve never heard of.

This is Preparation 500. Cow manure fermented over winter inside a cow horn, then dissolved and stirred into a vortex — alternating directions, building energy — before being sprayed across the vineyard at just grams per hectare.

Sound woo-woo? Maybe. But our 70-year-old vines at Skadar Lake don't lie.

Healthy soil = healthy roots = zero need to fix anything in the cellar. No fining. No filtering. No additions. Just this bowl, this stick, and this land.

That's biodynamics. That's Jablan. 🌿

Some of our vines were here long before we were. Many of them we didn’t plant.

We inherited them — 70-year-old Vranac roots that already knew how to read the land. Our job, as we see it, is simply not to get in the way.

That’s why we farm biodynamically. We return our own compost to the soil. We brew herbal teas from the plants growing around the vineyard. We apply biodynamic preparations the same way farmers have for a hundred years. We follow the calendar — fruit days, root days, the rhythm of the moon — because we've seen what happens when you do.

No chemicals. No irrigation. No shortcuts.

Just us, the vines, and a lot of respect for what was here before us.

We are proud to include Žižak in the Jablan winery portfolio, a variety that captures the resilient spirit of our coastal landscape. Once treated as a blending grape or ripped out in favor of high-yield international varieties, this treasure is finally reclaiming its status. As part of a dedicated group of Montenegrin vignerons, we have rescued Žižak from obscurity, giving it the varietal respect it deserves. Clinging to our salt-lashed limestone terraces, these low-yielding, wind-resilient vines produce thick-skinned berries that trade volume for a high-acid, and superb minerality.

Drinking a glass feels less like ‘tasting’ and more like a walk through a coastal garden. While the wine whispers notes of green apple, quince, and mountain thyme, the experience is defined by wild honeysuckle and dried chamomile transitioning into juicy peaches. Because these vines grow so close to the Adriatic, a distinct ‘sea spray’ finish keeps the fruit from being too sweet. It’s an easy-going white built for sunny afternoons, offering a refreshing kick that mimics the fragrant zest of a tangerine rather than a sharp lemon.

Žižak is a rare wine that trades generic ‘fish wine’ rules for a haunting dance of sea salt and wild herbs. Pale gold in the glass with a chalky finish, it holds its own against grilled octopus, fava bean puree, or the bold tang of young goat cheese. With three to five years of cellaring, this wine sheds its youth to reveal the lush, honeyed texture and ethereal character that define its signature style.

*

Dok vino šapuće note zelene jabuke, dunje i majčine dušice, doživljaj definišu mirisi divljeg bilja i sušene kamilice koji prelaze u ukus sočne breskve.

The ‘Organic Structure’ Focus

Our Vranac is a product of its environment, tucked between the lake and the limestone heights of Lovćen National Park. We follow organic and biodynamic principles, treating the vineyard as a living cycle rather than a production line. By avoiding irrigation and keeping our rows covered in natural meadow growth, we encourage the vines to develop a natural resilience. The result is a wine with a distinct ‘karst crunch’, which is a mineral backbone provided by the limestone. Cool air drainage from the peaks regulates the vineyard, cooling the fruit naturally and allowing the character of our old vines to speak for itself.

*

New things are fermenting at Jablan winery! To share our journey from Rvaši with the world, we’ve teamed up with Dusan Jelic. With 15+ years in the Balkan wine revival, Dušan is helping us translate our 'low-intervention' philosophy into stories you can feel. You’ll notice a shift in our tone; less observing from afar, more 'boots in the cellar' energy.

Expect more behind-the-scenes, raw looks at our Qvevris and 70-year-old vines as we move through our first certified organic harvest and celebrate our new Demeter biodynamic certification.

Cheers to this new chapter! 🥂🍷
