Vanilla has a surprisingly dramatic story behind it. For centuries, vanilla could only grow in one place in the world — Mexico. Not because of climate. Not because of soil. Because only one tiny bee knew how to pollinate the flower.
When vanilla plants were brought to other tropical regions, the vines grew beautifully… but produced no beans.
Until a young boy in Madagascar discovered a simple hand-pollination method in 1841 — a technique that is still used today. This means something remarkable: Almost every vanilla bean in the world still undergoes hand pollination.
A small, delicate flower.
A precise moment.
And a tradition that continues every single day in vanilla farms.🌸
