Sustainability is about reducing our impact. Regeneration is about creating a positive one.
This simple broom tells part of the story of what we are trying to build at La Petite Ferme.
The material is grown here on the farm, transformed into brooms by people from the East Coast of Mauritius, and brought back to the farm to clean our guests’ rooms.
A very small object, perhaps. But behind it is a complete circle: soil, plants, local knowledge, local livelihoods, and hospitality.
We also embrace technology. Our transport solutions are increasingly electric, powered through our solar energy system. These choices help us reduce pollution and our dependence on fossil fuels.
But for us, simply not polluting is not the final destination.
We want to regenerate.
Regenerate the soil.
Regenerate biodiversity.
Regenerate local skills and livelihoods.
Regenerate our relationship with the things we use every day.
Sometimes regeneration looks like solar panels and electric vehicles.
And sometimes, it looks like a broom growing quietly beside the path.
