I was honored to represent ZIHN Farm and Youth Agripreneurs Network - YANE at the Seed Scratch Card Awareness Study dissemination workshop organised by Farmers Union of Malawi held at Crossroads Hotel, Lilongwe.
The study exposed urgent challenges in Malawi’s seed sector, 67.7% of farmers unaware of Seed Scratch Card Technology. Only 24% consistently verify seed before purchase. Women farmers excluded from awareness campaigns. Counterfeiters reuse authentic packaging. Delays in code activation erode trust.
The findings highlight the need for genuine seed, awareness and trust. Without this, youth-led agribusinesses will continue face losses, low productivity and weakened resilience.
Closing awareness gaps and ensuring gender-responsive communication are key to safeguarding seed integrity, food security and community resilience. I'm grateful to for including youth voices in shaping agricultural policy.
