Hidden He@lth Secrets in Pig Farming
1️⃣ Garlic & Ginger Boost Immunity
Adding small amounts of garlic or ginger powder in pig feed strengthens the immune system, fights internal worms naturally, and reduces antibiotic use.
2️⃣ Clay in Feed or Water
Natural clay (bentonite) binds toxins like aflatoxin in contaminated feed, protecting pigs’ liver and preventing sudden deaths many farmers can’t explain.
3️⃣ Tail B!ting Is a Sign of Deficiency
When pigs b!te each other’s tails or ears, it’s often not just aggress!on, it signals lack of salt, fibre, or minerals in the diet.
4️⃣ Wood Ash for External Parasites
Rubbing pigs with clean wood ash reduces lice and mites naturally. Many rural farmers use this but few commercial farmers know its value.
5️⃣ Neem Water for Biosecurity
Sprinkling neem leaf extract water around pens reduces flies, ticks, and bacteria load. It’s a natural disinfectant that farmers underrate.
6️⃣ Night Dew Spreads Disease
Allowing pigs to sleep outdoors on bare ground at night increases pneumonia and worm problems because they inhale cold wet dew.
7️⃣ Iron Shots Alone Are Not Enough
Piglets need both iron injections and creep feed rich in vitamins. Many farmers stop at iron and wonder why growth is still poor.
8️⃣ Water Is Medicine
Dirty or hot water stresses pigs, reduces feed intake, and triggers d!seases. Cool, clean water alone can reduce diarrhea cases by more than half.
9️⃣ Hidden Carrier Pigs
Some pigs look healthy but carry de@dly d!seases like Afr!can Sw!ne Fever (ASF). Always quarantine new pigs before mixing them with your herd.
🔟 Stress Is D!sease
Stress from overcrowding, noise, or rough handling lowers immunity more than farmers realize. Sometimes what looks like “d!sease outbreak” is just stress induced weakness.
