Mango Farming
If you aspire to become a mango farmer, the best time to start preps is months way before planting and here is why:
Mitengo yamango samagula m'mbali mwanseu or kwa anyamata amabwera pa window yagalimoto. The likelihood of you getting it wrong is 98% if you do that (Have done it before hence sharing). You need to know mitengo yamango imene mukugula because it will be a couple of years before you begin to see the fruits. Imagine buying the wrong seedlings and only realizing three years down the line.
Water is non negotiable. So, if your farm has water now and will do so through October to December, you are well equipped for mango farming. Ngati madzi mulibe pano, kumbani chisime or it will be a stressful journey if you just depend on rains. Ndizotheka, sikuti sizimatheka, koma ka stress kamakhalapo heavy. Mango sinthochi kuti amaphuka akawuma.
Mukudzalayo ndimitengo, chonde satani ndondomeko yake. Get pitting right, have your manure ready and chonde chonde, your spacing should never be 2X2 or 3X3. Tiyeni tiziyambira ku 4X4 and you would be safe if you do 5X5. Ndiye malo akachepa, vomelezani achepa.
Know the variety you are planting and the potential off-taker. The larger the quantity the better because you attract good off takers and logistical costs are lowered.
If you can, plant the local varieties and ikagwira, get the experts to do the grafting for you. On small scale, this can be expensive, however on a larger scale muzasimba lokoma. But if you can afford to save yourself from other stresses associated with grafting, source your seedlings from established farms like Mkanga and you will be good to go.
