Gracias a y a la inimitable .jose.torress por la invitación y por introducirnos a la comunidad fungi. También debemos mencionar a por una presentación muy impresionante sobre los cordyceps en México.

Conocimos a muchas personas haciendo trabajo serio y comprometido en micología. Estar de vuelta en México, conectando con la profundidad de conocimiento, la historia y la comunidad alrededor de los hongos, nos recordó por qué hacemos esto.

Nos encantó compartir muestras por primera vez en nuestra tierra nativa.

Last weekend was really special. 🌱

Thank you to and the incomparable .jose.torress for the invitation and for introducing us to the fungi community. We also want to mention for a very impressive presentation on cordyceps in Mexico.

We met so many people doing serious and committed work in mycology. Being back in Mexico, connecting with the depth of knowledge, the history, and the community around mushrooms, reminded us why we do this.

We loved sharing samples for the first time in our tierra nativa.

Madre Mushroom presents Mix No. 3: 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦, curated by Radio Musgo—a solo music project by JJ from Mexico City. One of the tracks, 𝘶𝘯𝘰, is written and produced by her band, Tía Rosa. A few field notes she shared with us:

“Every time I forage it reminds me that fungi teach us how to belong—threading connections that turn care, food, and medicine into something communal. Sharing what I gather in the late summer becomes a practice of abundance, where imagination spreads like spores and community is the fertile ground.” 🪱

Blending ambient, minimal electronic, and experimental folk compositions, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 features tracks from INOYAMA-LAND, K. Leimer, Mamman Sani, Juana Molina, World Standard, and others.

Golden Milk and Cocoa Chai — now available at !

We’ve been longtime fans. Publican has been part of our family dinners and celebrations for years, so this one feels especially meaningful. A true pillar of Chicago’s food community. 🤍

In the spirit of “National Hot Chocolate Day”, I’d like to reminisce on my first blend, Cocoa Chai. It was a simple kitchen experiment inspired by this new idea (at the time) of a functional mushroom beverage. I knew functional mushrooms had a place in everyone’s health picture, but I didn’t know if I could encourage people to drink them.

I wanted my version to capture the synergy between indulgence, familiarity and good ingredients. I used my training in Chinese herbology to balance the flavors and the properties as I would a Chinese herbal formula. One of my favorite sayings in Chinese medicine is that “the correct formula will taste delicious to the patient” (for the record, most medicinal teas are NOT “delicious”). The truth is this: the body recognizes what’s good for it. Getting a recipe or formula right pleases both the conscious and the subconscious pathways.

In the end, I believe that what’s good for us tastes good in a way that’s different— something way beyond sweetness or umami or rich flavors. “Healthy” tastes good in a way that’s more deeply satisfying and I believe all of our blends reflect that.

Love to our immigrant communities, now and forever. ❤️♾️

A few weeks ago, we paid a visit to and spent the better half of the day sipping warm beverages and chatting away with the lovely An and Ge. We walked in as mere acquaintances and walked out as friends. We got to nerd out over TCM, do some R&D together, talk art world relationships, and hear pieces of their life stories. Not to mention wandering the shop (a real-life Howl’s Moving Castle) and discovering something new in every corner. We even got our tarot reading from their little dog, Truffle. 🪄

Chicago — if you’re nearby, you should really visit and keep up with their incredible programming of workshops, tastings, and more. De Duallè is one of those places you feel lucky to have spent time in. We’re delighted to be stocking our Cocoa Chai on their shelves and to be part of a space that feels so thoughtfully curated and lived-in.

Nothing meaningful is done alone.

Thank you — in no particular order — to Maria, Cely, Nick, Chloe, Kate, and the team. OOAK gave us more “firsts” than we could have imagined: our first fair, our first retail build-out, our first time wearing badges, our first 5-day marathon, our first time tripling production, our first time flying in our creative director from Mexico City, the first time & met IRL, our first collaboration with the handy , our first chance to meet hundreds of makers and artists, and our first time sharing Madre with thousands of people face to face.

It was full, energizing, and honestly a blast. We can’t wait for the next one.
