Tummy and I just loved this place in San Cristobal de las Casas. It became a real home from home.

Not only did it have a lovely and well kept wine collection, but the food was pretty nice too and there was a great playlist with lovely friendly waiters. La Vina de Bacco

We loved this place in Flores, Guatemala, called Big Fish.

In fact, we loved it so much, we didn't bother to try anywhere else.

Not only did it have fab views over Lake Petan, but it had our favourite wine (Gato Negro, a feisty littly drop from Latin America) and excellent fish and seafood.

This is one of the best dishes we had in Mexico, which was totally unlike the taco/ burrito / enchilada / sope combination.

This is Chiles en Nogada. It's supposed to look like the Mexico flag, white, green and red, and is traditionally served around Mexican Independence Day.

Basically a stuffed green pepper (meat and sultanas?) served in a creamy cheese sauce (white) with parsley (green), pomegranates (red) and some walnuts (for the fun of it).

We thought it was yummy and it made a nice change.

Tummy and I went on this day trip to a Mezcal distillery near San Cristobal and they made us (put a gun to our heads and everything) try 17 shots of Mezcal, including ones with Cannabis in.

Oh my word, Tummy and I were very jolly after that trip I can tell you!

However, what was amazing is the man said "I absolutely promise you will not have a hangover tomorrow as this Mezcal is organic with zero preservatives", and do you know what, he was absolutely right.

Made us 💩 for Britain the next day though! If you are constipated, we can seriously recommend 17 shots of Mezcal for a good clear out.

So this is what counts for breakfast in Mexico. Enchiladas in green sauce.

It was pretty good value with fruit, juice and cafecito (a little coffee) thrown in for 200 pesos (£8).

But, what we are starting to realise is that Mexican food is a bit samey. A Sope is a fat flat taco, a Taco is a thin folded Sope, an Enchilada is a Taco covered in sauce, a Burrito is a rolled Enchilada with no sauce, Chaquiles are broken up crispy Tacos with sauce on top, Nachos are Chaquiles without sauce that come with Guac, and so on.

We are starting to fancy a curry!

Tres Leches Cake is one of Tummy and I's favourite treats. Its a very simple treat, sponge cake soaked in 3 types of milk, normal, evaporated and condensed, usually topped with cream or Italian meringue. Not too sweet and very satisfying. We had this one in Panaderia Rosetta in Mexico City, which is the city's best bakery and in the world's 50 best restaurants list. It was flavoured with rose which made it a little different. Afternoon tea in CDMX anyone?

Tacos Baby!

Essentially these are flat Sopes, corn tacos rolled with filling in the middle instead of on top.

We prefer the thinner wraps, especially with fresh Guac and prawns.

These are called Sopes, a traditional and popular Mexican dish consisting of a thick, fried corn dough base, the same as a taco, but thicker.

The thick base has savory toppings, in this case black beans and pork, served with red pickled onion and cheese.

Quiet nice!
