Well… the chicken math has officially gotten out of hand.

We started with eggs the kids found and convinced me to put in the incubator. Somehow 8 chicks hatched after only FOUR DAYS in there.

Then we discovered one of our hens had been secretly raising 3 babies under the porch.

And now Buddy says, “I have 9 more chicks if you want them.”

Obviously the answer was yes. 🤣

So apparently we’re just collecting chickens now.

Please tell me I’m not the only person who has absolutely zero ability to say no to free chickens.

🐔☀️ Chicken people… what do y’all do when egg production drops in the summer heat?

Our girls have definitely been feeling the heat lately and production slowed WAY down. I started mixing a feed supplement into their food for a few days and they honestly seemed to perk back up pretty quickly. 🙌

I’m always curious what everyone else does during the hot months. Extra protein? Electrolytes? Frozen treats? Supplements? Just let them ride it out? 😂

I’ll put the supplement we’ve been using in the comments in case anyone wants to see it.

Tried something new tonight… avocado brownies. 🥑🍫

Are they terrible? No.
Are they going straight into the recipe binder? Also no. 😂

If I try them again, I’m definitely swapping the coconut oil for butter. For now, this recipe is firmly in the “maybe pile.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anybody else have a recipe you want to love but haven’t quite figured out yet?

Nothing fancy happening over here tonight… just a deer roast bubbling away in the Crock-Pot. 🤤🦌

Well… apparently all you need to hatch chickens is a couple of kids who find some eggs and a mom who’s easily convinced. 🤦🏻‍♀️🐣😂

The kids found these eggs outside and, against my better judgment, I agreed to throw them in the incubator just to see what happened.

FOUR DAYS LATER… 😳

Eliza happened to be recording when the first little one made its grand entrance, and now we’ve got a whole brooder full of tiny fluff balls.

We’ve officially used two different incubators now and honestly, both have been great for us as beginners. This newer one is definitely a size upgrade from our first, which I’m loving.

I’ll put links to both in the comments in case anyone else has kids who bring home questionable eggs and convince you to hatch them. 😂
