⭕️ she wears it over her heart ⭕️

Tonight feels like a full circle moment ⭕️

In 2018 during our relocation here, my mom inspired me to learn the art of jewelry. The alchemy of using fire and metal and stone was a form of healing.

I was learning in a beautiful workshop here in San Miguel de Allende — a room full of us beginners, all learning to make silver with our hands. My mom was there that week too, celebrating her birthday in the studio. In that room I sketched a little snake eating its own tail.

The Ouroboros.

2018. A little silver workshop in San Miguel. My mom inspired me to learn the art of jewelry during our relocation — fire, metal, stone. A cathartic and intimate alchemy.

I sketched a snake eating its own tail. The Ouroboros.

It’s the oldest symbol of eternity — in Egypt it was the world encircled by the serpent, in alchemy it’s the cycle of death and rebirth, the universe making itself from itself. The soul eating its own shadow to remember its light.

It was one of my first pieces.

This year, that same necklace appears in THEØNESS — a film about higher consciousness, about remembering who we are beyond this one life, with music by Axel Thesleff and Milana. In the film, she wears it right over her heart, in the middle of feathers and sequins and light.

I made it as a student in a little workshop in Mexico. Now it’s part of a story about the universe remembering itself.

So grateful to the teacher who taught my hands, and to my mom for being there at the beginning.

Now she wears it in THEØNESS — a film about remembering who we are beyond this one life.

The circle represents a continuous loop where there is no true beginning or end. It signifies that time is circular rather than linear, moving through endless seasons of life, decay, and rebirth.

Full circle. No beginning, no end.

Okay, she’s back. 😏
Dairy-free cheese made from mostly raw organic cashews. The not-so-secret magic ingredient? A couple probiotic capsules. I let her ferment and get funky for 3 days, then hit her with garlic, lemon zest + crushed black pepper.
I used to make this constantly about 12 years ago and forgot how good it is. It’s my favorite labneh stand-in — on warm pita with Kalamata olives, really good olive oil, za’atar and cucumber? Forget about it.
But she’s versatile. Pizza topping. Bagel schmear. Swirled into salad dressings. Layered into lasagna. Eaten straight from the jar with a spoon while standing in front of the fridge. No judgment.
Who said dairy-free has to be boring and sad?
This tangy little spread is gut-friendly, delicious, and will make you feel fancy.

Fun fact: cashews aren’t technically nuts, they’re seeds. But I promise you’ll go nuts for it anyway. 🌱

When life gives you lemons...

Fresh lemon zest for the freezer,
Lemon juice for cashew vegan “cheese” and homemade hummus,
And the peels to make salt-preserved lemons.

They say make lemonade. But when life gives me lemons, I use every single bit.

Just like life gives us so many emotions and feelings — tart, sweet, salty, bright — we can use them all in different ways. Nothing wasted.

Take what you have, alchemize it, and make lots of different flavors. 🍋✨
