San Luis del Río, Oaxaca is the birthplace of some of the most respected mezcals in the world 🌄
Located in the municipality of Tlacolula de Matamoros, this small town of approximately 800 residents holds a deep rooted agave tradition 🌱 It is estimated that around 80% of Espadín agave used in mezcal production comes from this region
At about 5,200 feet above sea level, with a dry climate and mineral rich soils, San Luis del Río provides ideal conditions for agave cultivation ⛰️
Here, mezcal is produced using ancestral methods 🔥 Underground stone ovens, tahona crushing, natural fermentation in wooden vats and double distillation in copper stills
Each batch takes weeks ⏳ Every step is guided by experience
Working alongside the family of Don Baltazar Cruz Gómez, Mía Kasta preserves a tradition passed down through generations 🤝

Uno de nuestros valores más importantes es el legado. Y eso fue precisamente lo que nos dejó Don
Baltazar Cruz Gomes.
Con profundo pesar anunciamos su fallecimiento. Nos conmueve despedir a un hombre que deja este mundo lleno de enseñanzas, carisma y, sobre todo, un legado invaluable para su familia y para la nuestra.
Don Baltazar fue orgullosamente el Maestro Mezcalero de Mía Kasta desde el inicio, el corazón y la raíz de nuestro proyecto. Su conocimiento, su disciplina y su amor por el mezcal vivirán en cada botella.
Creemos firmemente en honrar y continuar su legado de la mano de sus hijos, David y Rodrigo, con el mismo respeto, pasión y compromiso por la tradición.
Nuestras más sinceras condolencias para su familia.
