San Luis del Río, Oaxaca is the birthplace of some of the most respected mezcals in the world 🌄
Located in the municipality of Tlacolula de Matamoros, this small town of approximately 800 residents holds a deep rooted agave tradition 🌱 It is estimated that around 80% of Espadín agave used in mezcal production comes from this region
At about 5,200 feet above sea level, with a dry climate and mineral rich soils, San Luis del Río provides ideal conditions for agave cultivation ⛰️
Here, mezcal is produced using ancestral methods 🔥 Underground stone ovens, tahona crushing, natural fermentation in wooden vats and double distillation in copper stills
Each batch takes weeks ⏳ Every step is guided by experience
