💙 This is where our blue begins.

Morning harvest of fresh blue pea flowers — picked and prepped for today’s Pretty Jala orders. 🌿

No artificial blue colouring needed when nature gives us something this beautiful.

From these little blooms → to the beautiful shades of blue you see on our roti jala. 💙

“Purple, dark purple, white… think Justin Bieber.” 💜😂

That was the brief.

A Justin Bieber-themed bachelorette party definitely wasn’t on our Pretty Jala bingo card… but we were absolutely here for it. 😆

The challenge? Creating those beautiful purple tones while staying true to what we do at Sedap Pretty Jala — using natural food colouring. 🌿

Purple sweet potato gives us that gorgeous natural purple, but it can oxidise and turn slightly greyish as it cools. So we played with a little dragon fruit to bring in a warmer pinkish undertone… mixed, adjusted, tested — until the colours came together beautifully. 💜🌸

And when we sent the finished piece to our customer…

“Omg yesss so cantikkk.”

Mission accomplished. 🥹💜

💚 Pandan for green

❤️ Red yeast rice for red
🩷 Dragon fruit for pink & peach

We mix, blend and play with these beautiful natural powders to create the shades you see on our Pretty Jala — which means no two batches will always look exactly the same.

Some of my favourite orders are the ones that simply say…

“You choose the colours.” 🤍

That little bit of creative freedom means I get to experiment — mixing and blending our natural food colouring powders, adjusting the tones as I go, and letting the colours come together in their own beautiful way. 🌸

No exact colour codes. No rigid palette.

Just a little intuition, a little creativity… and lots of pretty jala. ✨

And I think that’s when I enjoy creating them the most.

Because sometimes, when you leave the colours to me, you might just get something more beautiful than either of us imagined. 🤍

The enchanting jala will always be my favourite pretty jala to make.. From the layers of roti jala stacks to the colorful floral jalas carefully pinned on top. And the soft touch of the curry leaves in between the floral jala... It is just feels so poetic to me.
