Waiting.

Waiting for the cake to rise.
Waiting for the timer to ring.
Waiting to see if everything turns out as planned.

After all the measuring, mixing, and cleaning,
there is nothing left to do but stand in front of the oven and watch.

Sometimes with excitement.
Sometimes with a little nervousness.

Because inside that oven is not just a cake.

It is something they made with their own hands. 🍰

And that moment of anticipation is always worth capturing.

Today’s lesson: Apple Puff 🍎

He found it difficult to core and cut the apple while making apple puff.
But he did not give up.

He said, “Practice makes perfect.”

While working, he kept talking to himself — encouraging and reminding himself throughout the process.

Through baking, students can slowly build confidence.
With confidence, they become more willing to face challenges and overcome difficulties step by step.

👩‍🍳Baking is not just a skill

She came to class that day feeling overwhelmed.

She kept talking to herself.
At times, she cried.
When upset, she would reach out and pinch others.

We did not stop the class.

Instead, we continued with the baking activity.
Slowly, she focused on the task in front of her.
Her breathing slowed.
Her emotions settled.
Her mood improved.
She became more organised and completed her work.

For her, baking is not just a skill.
It is a way to find calm, regulate, and feel safe again.

Why French Toast Is Harder Than It Looks

At first glance,
French toast seems like an easy recipe.

But for many students,
the real challenge is not the ingredients.

It is attention, timing, and judgement.

They have to keep watching the pan.
Notice small changes in colour.
Decide when the toast is ready to flip.

There is no timer telling them the exact moment.

They also learn to use their sense of smell.

When the toast gives off a light, warm aroma,
it is usually ready.

If they wait too long,
the smell changes —
and that is when it starts to burn.

These small decisions happen in just a few seconds.

In the kitchen,
students are not only learning how to cook.

They are learning how to observe,
wait,
make decisions,
and respond to what they see and smell.

And sometimes,
that is the harder skill.

👨‍🍳Today’s lesson: French toast.

ZX usually moves very quickly.

When he works,
he tends to rush through things.

But today was different.
Each time the bread was on the pan,
he stayed.

He did not rush ahead.
He waited for the right moment.

Being able to wait
is already part of the learning.

In class,
we often create moments like this —
where students have to pause,
watch,
and wait.
