Tribute to My Dearest Friend, Tan Sri V. Jeyaratnam
It is with profound sadness and deep grief that I learned of the passing of my dear friend, Tan Sri V. Jeyaratnam.
I have known Tan Sri since I started my business in 1983. He was one of my earliest supporters, and I held him in the highest regard long before I had the privilege of knowing him personally.
That opportunity came when I was entrusted with catering for his son's wedding luncheon in Ipoh. Tan Sri personally invited me to his residence, where, together with his wife, we carefully planned every aspect of the wedding lunch. Every detail was thoroughly discussed and agreed upon.
The immense trust and confidence that Tan Sri placed in me was truly remarkable. Even before the event, he personally instructed his wife to settle my bill in full, amounting to approximately RM15,000. The payment was made two months ahead of the wedding, a gesture that spoke volumes about his faith in my abilities and my business.
We delivered the event successfully, and I was deeply gratified by Tan Sri's happiness and satisfaction with our services.
Over the years, I had the privilege of catering for many of his functions, and he was always a gracious client and a true gentleman.
Tan Sri also attended many of my personal functions and always enjoyed himself immensely.
He was a man of distinction, impeccably dressed, refined in his mannerisms, and blessed with a vibrant personality. He was truly a colourful character whose presence commanded admiration and respect.
Together with his close friend, the late Rajadurai, they formed a formidable partnership that helped shape the social and entertainment scene of Ipoh. Their efforts brought many international stars to our town.
One occasion that I vividly remember was when the Miss World contestants came to our shores and participated in a spectacular event in Ipoh. It was a proud and memorable moment for the city.
Tan Sri was in a class of his own, a gentleman par excellence.
He was actively involved in organising numerous fundraising projects for the Sultan Idris Shah Foundation and often invited me to participate. It was always an honour to oblige.
One particular event remains etched in my memory. I provided 1,000 meals free of charge at a funfair organised by Yayasan Sultan Idris Shah. Tan Sri was deeply appreciative of my contribution and personally thanked me for my support.
Dearest Tan Sri, on behalf of the nation, I thank you for your countless contributions to our country, and in particular for helping to place Ipoh on the world map.
A million thanks for all that you have done for me, for my business, and for placing Martin Food Caterers on a higher pedestal.
I owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for your many selfless deeds, your friendship, and your unwavering support throughout the years.
May the Good Lord bless you, and may your soul rest in everlasting peace.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
