De Raja Brooke's Orchard

De Raja Brooke's Orchard De Raja Brook's Orchard is born from the dream of a husband and wife team Ricky & Pauline to have a retirement playground of their own.

Here we invite everyone to join us in this journey and enjoy what nature have to offer.

Yesterday, RBO welcomed three special young visitors — Jarrod Chang, Kyle Chang, and Evan Tai. Their adventure began with a short hike to the highest point of the orchard, where they were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the farm and the majestic Banjaran Titiwangsa rising in the distance.

Along the way, we introduced them to the wonders of nature — durians hanging on the trees, the clear river where they splashed and played, our farm animals, fish pond, ferns, flowers, A-Frame cabin, and Belantara Cafe. Every corner of RBO became an outdoor classroom filled with discovery and excitement.

We even gave them their first taste of marketing. With great enthusiasm, they proudly told everyone that RBO has lots of durians! Seeing young minds connect with nature and learn about farm life was truly a joy.

The future belongs to them, and yesterday they experienced a little piece of it here at De Raja Brooke's Orchard.

The Bird Nest Ferns of De Raja Brooke's Orchard
One of the first things guests notice when they arrive at De Raja Brooke's Orchard is the abundance of bird nest ferns growing throughout the property. Nestled beneath towering bamboo groves, beside our A-frame cabins, and tucked among the lush greenery of the orchard, these magnificent tropical plants help create the feeling of stepping into a hidden rainforest paradise.
The bird nest fern is a plant that truly belongs in the tropics. Its broad, bright green fronds unfurl gracefully from a central crown, resembling a giant bird's nest—hence its name. In the wild, these ferns are often found clinging to trees high above the forest floor, collecting fallen leaves and rainwater to sustain themselves. Here at De Raja Brooke's Orchard, they thrive naturally in our cool, humid environment, nourished by the nearby river and sheltered by the surrounding forest.
As sunlight filters through the bamboo and rainforest canopy, the ferns seem to glow with different shades of green. Their elegant forms soften the landscape and create peaceful corners where guests can sit, relax, and reconnect with nature. The gentle rustling of their leaves in the breeze blends with the sounds of flowing water, singing birds, and the distant flutter of Rajah Brooke's Birdwings.
For us, these ferns are more than ornamental plants. They are part of the living ecosystem that makes this place special. They remind us that nature does not rush. Year after year, they quietly grow larger and more beautiful, becoming natural sculptures that enhance the tropical charm of our orchard.
When you stay at De Raja Brooke's Orchard, take a moment to admire these remarkable plants. Sit beside one with a cup of coffee or tea, listen to the forest around you, and experience the simple tranquility of a tropical paradise where nature remains the true architect. nest fern.

Today's lunch on the farm is nasi kunyit paired with curry chicken, made from our own pasture-raised kampung chicken. Simple food, but rich with the flavours of a slower life.
Nearly six years ago, we left the city behind and moved off-grid to De Raja Brooke's Orchard. For us, slowing down wasn't just an idea—it became a way of living. Even brewing our Chinese tea is done over a traditional rocket stove. The water boils slowly, the tea brews slowly, and we sip it slowly. There is no rush, no schedule to chase, no clock telling us when to finish.
This is the experience we hope to share with our future guests.
At De Raja Brooke's Orchard, you don't come here to do more. You come here to do less. To listen to the river, watch the forest, enjoy simple meals, breathe fresh air, and reconnect with nature.
A place to slow down, do nothing, relax, and start living again.

✨ A Living Corner of Wilderness Café ✨
While the construction of our Wilderness Café continues, I have also been creating little corners of peace and wonder for our future guests. One of my latest projects is this simple fish tank, built using nature itself as the filtration system.
There are no pumps, no filters, and no electricity. Instead, aquatic plants grow directly in the water, helping to keep it clean and balanced. It is a small experiment inspired by the natural streams and forests that surround us, where life thrives in harmony without modern technology.
My hope is that this living ecosystem will flourish and become a quiet place for guests to sit, relax, and observe nature at work. As evening falls and the soft lights glow among the plants, you can listen to the sounds of the forest, watch the fish glide peacefully through the water, and experience a slower, gentler way of life.
At De Raja Brooke's Orchard , we are not just building a place to stay—we are creating an experience where nature is the teacher, and every corner has a story to tell.

With the deck and safety railing finally up at Wilderness Cafe, we spend this peaceful Sunday morning surrounded by the sound of the flowing river and the beauty of the forest around us. A simple moment, sitting close to nature, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the calmness that makes all the hard work worth it.

Every premium durian begins long before the fruit appears. Here at our farm, we carefully prune the branches, clean the trunks, mow the grass to keep the orchard dry, and allow sunlight and fresh air to flow through the trees.
Our durians are grown on rocky hilly land with a river flowing through it — natural conditions that help create stronger roots and richer flavour. With patience, hard work, and respect for nature, we are confident that these trees will reward us with premium quality durians in the years to come.
