Our Story
Hikayat Kitchen (formerly known as Hikayat Percik) is a pop-up kitchen project by a creative husband and wife team - Ashraf is an artist, singer/songwriter, poet while Kina is a jewellery artist-maker - bringing authentic flavours of the East Coast to a more contemporary, fun, and unconventional setting - with a twist.
It is a culmination of many many dinner parties and entertaining friends from all corners of the world, each curated with specific interests in mind. Hikayat carries the tales of faraway places while Percik reminds us of home.
We enjoy experimenting with different flavours discovered on our travels and marrying them with traditional Malay cooking, especially of the East Coast where Kina is from.
Initially set up as pop-ups for fun, we have moved to doing dinner delivery to adapt to the MCO. Cooking is our form of escape yet at the same time a very nurturing act. Having been paralyzed by all the restrictions and uncertainties, doing something very raw and very basic as cooking for others helps us to re-establish a sense of normalcy. In this situation, nothing is more comforting than a taste of the familiar and that's what we're doing with our food.
