When it comes to pan mee in Puchong, Kah Heong is undoubtedly one of the area’s longest-established names and is frequently recommended by locals as one of the go-to spots for a bowl of traditional pan mee. Conveniently located within the bustling Puchong Wawasan morning market area, it caters to the breakfast crowd from early morning and operates only until mid-afternoon. The restaurant specialises in traditional Hakka-style pan mee, offering soup, dry and chilli pan mee variations.
I had visited years ago and decided to return recently, having largely forgotten what it was like. The hand-pinched noodles were smooth, soft and relatively thin. If you prefer your pan mee thick and chewy, this may not be quite to your taste. The dry version was flavourful and satisfying, while the chilli pan mee was decent, with a fairly moderate level of heat. Their chilli sauce here leaned more towards being aromatic and savoury rather than intensely spicy.
One downside was the dining environment. I visited at around 2.30pm and found the place rather warm and stuffy. The prices also felt slightly on the higher side for a non-air-conditioned eatery. That said, if you’re after a comforting, home-style pan mee with a traditional touch, Kah Heong remains a solid choice.
