When it comes to pan mee in Puchong, Kah Heong is undoubtedly one of the area’s longest-established names and is frequently recommended by locals as one of the go-to spots for a bowl of traditional pan mee. Conveniently located within the bustling Puchong Wawasan morning market area, it caters to the breakfast crowd from early morning and operates only until mid-afternoon. The restaurant specialises in traditional Hakka-style pan mee, offering soup, dry and chilli pan mee variations.

I had visited years ago and decided to return recently, having largely forgotten what it was like. The hand-pinched noodles were smooth, soft and relatively thin. If you prefer your pan mee thick and chewy, this may not be quite to your taste. The dry version was flavourful and satisfying, while the chilli pan mee was decent, with a fairly moderate level of heat. Their chilli sauce here leaned more towards being aromatic and savoury rather than intensely spicy.

One downside was the dining environment. I visited at around 2.30pm and found the place rather warm and stuffy. The prices also felt slightly on the higher side for a non-air-conditioned eatery. That said, if you’re after a comforting, home-style pan mee with a traditional touch, Kah Heong remains a solid choice.

Dry Pan Mee (Pinch) - RM11
Chilli Pan Mee (Pinch) - RM12.50

If you’re after something a little different from the usual Korean BBQ experience, GU ON Korean BBQ is well worth considering. Known for its contemporary Seoul-inspired concept, the restaurant specialises in straw-smoked meats rather than the usual raw or marinated cuts. It offers a more premium Korean BBQ experience with quality pork cuts while remaining reasonably priced.

One thing that impressed me was the full-service grilling. The staff are clearly well-trained, and the meats were grilled to perfection — juicy, flavourful and beautifully charred.

The selection of side dishes is fairly limited, with only five varieties available, but they all tasted good and are refillable through the self-service banchan station.

Beyond the barbecue, the Volcano Steamed Egg was a standout — exceptionally fluffy and packed with eggy goodness. The Potato Pancake was wonderfully crisp and topped with grated cheese, while the Cream Cheese Hotteok was equally satisfying, with a crispy exterior and molten cream cheese filling.

This was easily one of the most satisfying Korean BBQ experiences I‘ve had recently. Despite not being air-conditioned, the ventilation was surprisingly good and the space never felt overly warm. At roughly RM50 per person for our group of six, I thought it offered great value. Given its popularity and frequent queues, booking ahead is definitely advisable.

Farm & Sea Feast (4-5 pax) - RM198
250g Smoked Pork Belly Bone-in
150g Pork Hidden Back
220g Smoked Chicken Thigh
Perilla Pesto Butter Scallops
Original Pork Bone Soup
Volcano Steamed Egg
Cream Cheese Hotteok

Potato Pancake - RM27
Refillable Water (Still/Sparkling) - RM3 /pax

I was looking for a Japanese restaurant around Bukit Jalil the other day and came across Wasabi Plus.

Wasabi Plus is a Japanese restaurant chain that has steadily expanded across the Klang Valley, with outlets in Menjalara Kepong, SS15 Subang, Bukit Jalil, Taman Connaught, and Sunway Velocity TWO. It is known for its creative Japanese fusion dishes, eye-catching presentation, and cosy Totoro-themed ambience. The restaurant also tends to attract a queue during peak dining hours.

The sashimi was fresh and served in reasonably thick cuts. The teriyaki grilled squid, however, was a little underwhelming. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The service was prompt, the environment was comfortable, and the prices were reasonable. The food was decent, although nothing particularly memorable stood out from the meal.

Okinawa Sashimi - RM78
Rainbow Roll - RM34
Surumeika Teriyaki - RM32
Fruit Salad - RM22
Ebikko Gunkan - RM4
Kani Chawanmushi - RM10
Roasted Green Tea (Refillable) - RM3 /pax

This mamak has been around for years, but somehow I never got around to trying it until recently. Finally dropped by for a meal and it turned out to be surprisingly good.

I ordered the maggie goreng along with the nasi goreng ikan masin from the Malay stall inside the mamak, and both dishes were pretty tasty. Service was also fast and efficient. One thing that stood out was how they still serve drinks in the classic plastic takeaway bags instead of cups.

Overall, it’s a solid spot for a late-night supper fix, especially since they operate 24 hours a day. They even have robot servers roaming around the restaurant, which is honestly quite cool and unexpected for a mamak spot.

Maggie Goreng - RM8
Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin - RM7.50
Teh O Limau Ice - RM3

I’ve visited Chef J in Old Klang Road a few times and have always had a satisfying experience there. Even after years of operation, the restaurant remains highly popular and is almost always packed during peak hours. Known for its traditional Guangzhou-style Cantonese dishes, Chef J continues to attract crowds with its comforting flavours and consistent quality.

Some of my personal favourites were the signature roasted chicken, which had crispy skin and juicy meat, while the steamed tiger prawns stood out with their strong Shao Hsing wine fragrance. The typhoon shelter roe crab was also fresh and flavourful.

Overall, Chef J is a great spot for family dinners or group gatherings if you enjoy traditional Cantonese comfort food. Prices are reasonable considering the quality and portions, and the food has been consistently enjoyable from my visits. Service was efficient too, though advance reservations are highly recommended as the queues can get quite long.
