Have you tried Kristang food? It was a first for me and I realised that it's got a lot of similarities with Nyonya and Malay food.
Lunch at chef Melba Nunis' private dining was a lovely, cozy affair, as she shared her mother's recipes and fav dishes with us.

We started with epok-epok - mini curry puffs but had yam bean stuffing, akin to pie tie (Nyonya top hat). Eaten together with Melba's homemade chilli, this was addictive!

Baked crab was on a whole new level, a mix of crab meat with bread crumbs, egg and mustard, stuffed back inside the crab shell. Each spoonful was so tasty, a play of textures and a delight for the palate.

Main course was laksa that came in a broth chock full of ingredients, thick with fish, herbs and spices, and then prawns, beanspouts, omelette, taupok. It was a surprising slow burn that only hits you after. This was probably the most unexpected dish for me - Melba's own recipe - it seemed very familiar yet different in its own way. Rich, creamy and soul-fulfilling.

Dessert was sago gula melaka, my fav. We also had pulut with homemade Kaya. This special lunch outing was RM80/pax and we were generously given second, and even third helpings, if our stomachs could manage. A wonderful afternoon spent with good food and good companions.

Chef Melba hosts private dining events and you can even have a full Kristang dinner with true blue Portuguese dishes. For reservations, check out Chef Melba Nunis for the various options available.

Heineken House, headlined by Swedish DJ and producer Axwell alongside Baby J and Tye Turner, amped up the finale of Heineken® House Sessions, for a celebration of music, connection and shared experiences at The Arch Galeries in Kuala Lumpur.

Heineken's global Fans Have More Friends platform and its local Just Say Hei campaign saw fans connecting over music.
This included the Hei Zone with The Clinker, Heineken's latest social innovation. First introduced at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival earlier this year, The Clinker wraps around a Heineken cup whereby the smart band links fans based on their music tastes, lighting up when they have something in common.

Fans immersed themselves in a curated line-up of international, regional and local artists across two immersive music rooms.

At Star Arena, festival-scale performances culminated in an electrifying headline set by Axwell, and Baby J and Tye Turner at Star Club.

I'm a sucker for good dim sum and what more when there's a great deal on offer! Last few days to enjoy Elegant Inn Hong Kong Cuisine's anniversary specials which ends this Aug 23.

A bunch of us opted for the Executive lunch for RM118++ which had A Happy Start - whole abalone taro pouch dim sum trio platter. Unusual creations that were a party of delightful flavours.

Soup - double boiled cordeyceps flowers, dried conch and free range chicken. Clean and clear, yet deep flavours made this soup taste so luxurious

Main course - lime and Hawthorn sauce pork spare ribs. Absolutely delicious

Braised vermicelli with sea garoupa fillet and abalone sauce. Soft textured, more like mee sua, comforting, gentle on the palate.

Sweet ending - birds nest yan xi lotus bloom pastry and cashew nut cream with Japanese pumpkin. Having cashew was next level compared to normal peanut soup, and this was so smooth and creamy.

There's also a Best Deal of the Year at RM488++ and the Anniversary Deal for RM268++.

Tiger Beer has launched Tiger Courage Beats, an innovative experience that transforms personal stories of courage into songs, giving people a new way to hear, relive and share the moments that have moved them forward.

Available from Aug 1 to Sept 15, as part of the brand’s Roar With Courage campaign, Tiger Courage Beats invites people to submit stories of the moments that kept them moving forward. Each story can be transformed into a personalised Courage Song generated using artificial intelligence (AI), in the participant’s chosen music genre, voice and language, with downloadable audio and visual formats for sharing on social media. This experience is designed to help consumers creatively express their stories and does not replicate or imitate any specific artist, performer, or copyrighted work.

Tiger Courage Beats invites people to put those untold stories into words and hear them recognised, many for the first time, through music.

Eligible participants may also receive access to the Tiger Courage celebration later this year, subject to availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mala Bistronome (MB) features a unique blending of two different cuisines with mala and it’s excellent!

The mala tang section is where you choose your own ingredients and add your own choice of soup. The soup base is not some MSG-laden commercial mala, but made from quality chicken broth boiled for hours to give it that natural sweetness.

We had original flavour and green pepper soup. MB played down the spice level for us as they wanted us to be able to taste the actual chicken broth, so it didn't have the kick we were expecting. If you like your mala fiery, tell them to tweak the spice level. The green pepper soup was super mild, reminded me of Penang laksa without the sambal. What’s nice is that the soups were drinkable, and won’t burn your insides.

The bigger attraction, to me, were the Levantine breads - the spinach version had a healthy dose of green with a mala edge that went well with the plainness of the bread. The lamb flatbread was also very delicious. For a bit of everything, the mala platter is the best bet as it has sesame onion bread to go with dips such as century egg mixed with cheese - this actually works; sesame paste; green peppercorn, pickled mushroom and celery.

For the bistro dishes, almost everything is laced with mala - dumplings, spring chicken - so scrumptious, tiger prawns, mapo tofu (comes with rice beneath) and they are all so good!

Even if your friend or family member is not a mala tang fan, there are plenty of options. MB is pork free, fuss free decor and the vibe so chill that everybody and anybody fits right in.

Domino's Malaysia has a new Pizza Puff, a fresh way to enjoy pizza. Wrapped in a golden flaky crust and folded into a half-moon shape, Pizza Puff locks in heat and fillings to deliver a warm, satisfying bite. Unlike a traditional pizza, its enclosed creation brings together the familiar flavours of Domino's in a completely new format, a packed pocket of flavour.

Available in three flavours:

Loaded Beef combines ground beef, beef pepperoni, smoky BBQ sauce, and melted mozzarella.

Loaded Chicken features chicken potpourri sausages, chicken pepperoni, tomato pizza sauce, and melted mozzarella.

Loaded Cheese is made for cheese lovers, featuring a rich molten cheese centre layered with melted mozzarella and tomato pizza sauce.

Priced at only RM9.90 across all three flavours, Pizza puff is available for a limited time at Domino's stores nationwide for takeaway, delivery, and dine in.

Customers can order through the Domino's website, the Domino's App, or at any Domino's store.

My verdict? The puff is like a calzone, but flatter, almost like two slices of pizza folded on top of each other. As a solo meal, it can be quite filling as it’s essentially a full single pizza folded in halfx it can be a complete meal. The bread part isn’t overly thick, and the edges are nice and crisp.

Tastewise, it maintains Domino’s primary pizza flavours although the ingredients could be more generous, especially the beef peperoni/ chicken sausages which are few and far in between. The beef version comes with bits of minced beef. But if you’re adverse to empty calories like my No.2, this would not be your choice as the puff is pure carb heaven.

But for RM9.90, it’s cheaper than a bowl of noodles at some places, so it’s worth a try!

How to eat mango? Let me count the ways… Harumanis, dubbed the King of Mangoes, grown at the foot of Bukit Chuping, Perlis, is now in season, specifically from April to June.

In a special collab with THB, headed by Chef Andy CKT, Harumango Sdn Bhd has teamed up with the restaurant to showcase the many ways Harumanis can be enjoyed, and how to savour its intense natural sweetness at the right time.
Unlike other mangoes, Harumanis stays green when ripened, and if it turns yellow, means it's over ripened and possibly mushy even.

At a special luncheon hosted by THB, guests enjoyed a whole list of canapes, ranging from appetisers to main courses, right down to dessert. We had burrata salad with mango, angel hair pasta and fried rice with mango, duck, salmon, beef and lamb as well, all accompanied by Harumanis. Chef Andy did amazing array including cocktails and mocktails too.

The canapes are not available anymore (though chef Andy may oblige if you ask pls, pls, pls!) but you can still order Harumanis. Call 012-378 6924.
