20 years ago, I baked my first kek lapis Sarawak over a charcoal 'oven'. From whisking the eggs with the traditional huge hand whisker to baking the cake with an improvised oven, this job could easily take 8 hours. Thanks to today's technologies, baking kek lapis is now a much more enjoyable and therapeutic experience for me.
