DIFFERENT TYPE OF UBI
Hello everyone, do you know there's alot of Ubi in Malaysia? Some of them are Ubi Keledek, Ubi Keladi, Ubi Kayu, Ubi Gadong and more. Don't you wonder what is the difference between all of these Ubi? Today we will be sharing the difference, uniqueness and benefits of each Ubi 😆
Ubi Keledek @ Sweet Potato
Sweet potato is a type of tuber that is widely used to make various types of food and confectionery. This creeping tree can be propagated through tubers and stem cuttings. There are many varieties of sweet potatoes and it tastes sweet. Its use is that sweet potato also has value in traditional medicine. It can brighten the eyes and cure ulcers. They are also good for digestion and are effective in overcoming the problem of nearsightedness at night, as well as brightening the eyes.
Sweet potatoes are rich in carbohydrates, carotene, cellulose and mucin (a type of protein). It can strengthen the spleen and stomach and stimulate the flow of energy.
Ubi Keladi @ Yam
Yam trees are widely available in our country with various species of yam trees such as forest yam, oil yam, elephant yam, white yam, betawi, shrimp. This yam tree has a variety of leaf colors and thrives in dim peaty areas. There are several types of yam trees, among them are sebaring yam trees, opposite yam trees, mouse yams, kemoyan yams and red yams.
Ubi Kayu @ Cassava
The cassava tree is a plant with a fragile and easily broken stem. The stem is round and jagged due to the former base of the leaf stalk. The middle of the stem has a cork. Cassava trees usually reach a height of up to 4 meters. It is easy to grow and to take care. This tree can be grown using stem cuttings. The skin of the cassava stem contains tannins, peroxide enzymes, glycosides and calcium oxalate. Its use is that during the Japanese rule in Malaya, cassava became the food of choice after rice supply was difficult to obtain. It is also a favorite food during the monsoon season. Cassava can be boiled, baked, fried, made into chips and traditional confectionery. In addition to the edible tuber, the leaves and parts of the cassava plant are also useful for us. A piece of cassava stem boiled with 3 glasses of water until it boils, then filtered and drunk twice a day (morning and evening) is believed to relieve fever.
Ubi Gadong
The yam is a poisonous plant and the only wild plant that can survive in any weather conditions. It can live for many years and is very difficult to die. In fact, these tubers can be eaten but must be used in the right way. Its content grows in the soil like cassava and sweet potato. Its shape is quite round and has thin, hard skin. The skin is yellowish brown and the inside is whitish yellow. However, when the tuber is too old and the skin has turned green, it contains a high quantity of poison. Its size can reach several kilograms.
