Think Before You Judge

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor.

On seeing him, the father yelled, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?”

The doctor smiled and said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”.

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for doctor than what will you do??” said the father angrily. The doctor smiled again and replied, “We will do our best by God’s grace and you should also pray for your son’s healthy life”.
“Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy, “Thank goodness! your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running by saying, “If you have any questions, ask the nurse”.

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left. The nurse answered, tears coming down her face, “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was at the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”

Moral: Never judge anyone because you never know how their life is and what they’re going through

Having money in your pocket is good, but having Jesus in your heart is perfect.

I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can't change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.
~Charles de Lint~

Good morning, and may your day be filled love, joy, kindness and understanding.

I believe that one of the most magnificent reasons we are here at this time is to help and support each other in whatever way we can. It's what I know I am here to do through my work, writing, and through the joy I find in bringing people together. We've forgotten how important and necessary this is, and it's why we are being reminded of this now given all that is happening out in the world, and within our own world. Somehow, we've been conditioned to believe that helping someone else means more for them and less for us. Life doesn't work in that way, and never provides from a place of more or less. That is what we've been taught to believe, and it's an illusion. In the eyes of life, there are no special people.

When we choose to help others, it not only helps them, but we become happier and healthier as well. We build connections, and by doing so it strengthens our circle, our communities and our world. We rise by helping others. We can stand beside each other and face everything together, which often creates the meaning we're seeking in our own life and it opens more doors. Remember, helping others is not always about giving money - we can also give our time, ideas, energy, our willingness to simply listen to each other, and our love.

May you notice and embrace all the little moments of today.

Affirmation: I do my best to help others.

WHY ARE WE AFRAID OF SPEAKING?

Have you ever heard somebody speaking your language? Was it perfect? When they made mistakes, did you think they were stupid? Or were you impressed that they could speak your language, even if there were some mistakes?

My first job teaching English was in Warsaw, Poland. I quickly learnt a few sentences, like “I’m sorry, I don’t speak Polish”, “I’m an English teacher” and “One doughnut, please!” It wasn’t perfect but people understood me. Some people even congratulated me on my Polish when, in fact, I only knew a few sentences!

So why are we so afraid of speaking another language? I get really nervous and I know a lot of you do too. Not everyone, I know, but fear of speaking English (or any second language) is a very common issue.

So what can we do about it?

We need to work on changing our thinking.

So remember:

1. If you can only speak even a little bit of another language, you are already doing something amazing!

2. Don’t feel you have to be perfect before you speak. My experiences in Poland (and in other countries) have taught me that people are happy that you try, even if it’s not perfect.

3. People will usually understand you, even if you make a mistake, and communication is the most important thing, right?

4. Most people are kind. They probably won’t laugh at you when you make a mistake and they want to help you. Sure, there are some people who are less kind but that’s their problem, right?!

5. Having said that, some mistakes are funny! Learners can say things which sound funny, like saying “chicken” when they mean ”kitchen”! Does that matter? You laugh at yourself too, right?

6. You can learn from your mistakes and improve your English.

So, am I saying that mistakes don’t matter? Not exactly. Of course, you want to improve your accuracy with practice. I’m saying that you shouldn’t let the fear stop you from speaking.

We use "a" for taxis because they do not follow a specific route. / It is never the same car. For buses, trains, and other vehicles follow a specific route, we usually use "the" in this context.

Although it's not wrong, it's not normal to say "on foot" in this situation. The normal thing to say is "I walk to work." I included "on foot" just because I knew people would ask about it if I didn't include it.

If you take the subway to work, you can use either "train" or "subway". Both are correct. "Subway" is just more specific.
