New SARS border rules for Namibian vehicles from June

Namibian motorists travelling to South Africa will face new border requirements from 1 June 2026.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced that all foreign-registered vehicles, including those from SACU countries, including Namibia, must now be declared online through the Traveller Management System (TMS) before entering or leaving South Africa.
Travellers will need to complete a temporary importation declaration electronically, with SARS introducing a Mobi App and online platform/.
The revenue service said that the measure is part of its efforts to modernise customs, improve border security, and speed up crossings for travellers who comply with the rules.
Temporary import permits will remain available for frequent visitors, valid for six months and allowing multiple entries without the need to reapply..
