We chose to free-range the chickens with what we have, but getting the right equipment will make the task so much easier and the concept so much more attractive.

We had to choose between starting with what we have, or waiting till we have enough money to get the electrified poultry netting system. Sometimes it's better starting with the imperfect system, than waiting - you may wait forever!

Her Majesty.

Her abdomen is longer than her wings. She can lay up to 2500 eggs a day! Even more impressive if you know she only goes on one mating flight in her life and can live 3- 5 years on average.

We don't look for her when we do inspections, but rather look for signs of her, like eggs, bee larvae and capped brood. So when we do see her it is a pretty big deal.

Long before spring on the calendar, nature announces a new season. We see it in the blossoms, and we see it in new growth. Frost covers make way for shade cloth. Like a curtain pulled open allowing sunlight into a dark room, the earth wakes up from her sleep.
