Step 8. On things to do in the brooder room when brooding your birds. Monitoring.

From the first to day 14 is very critical to the life of your birds, every day monitoring is very crucial in other to detect and correct early problems.

Monitor their daily activity like, movement, feed and water intake, if you notice any one showing signs of weakness, gasping for air, refusing to eat or drink separate them from others immediately and start checking for the cause .

Look at their droppings when it's normal (a grey and little white at the end, then if you notice a change from that quality and color to any other immediately start to check what is coming, because the presence of most disease will change their droppings.

Always monitor their temperature it must not be too high or to low, it must always be normal. Don't relax on this because the weather temperature at any time can increase or decrease the brooder room temperature. Remember as they are growing the needed temperature reduces.

Monitor their legs and body weight most especially broilers, because they grow weight faster than their legs can carry. If nothing is done early enough paralysis comes in, so know when to start supplementing for calcium.

Finally monitor their vent if it's clean or dirty because a clean vent area signal that the birds are healthy and a dirty vent area signals sickness.

Step 7. On what to do when you are brooding birds in your brooder room. Check your ventilation.

You don't need to seal your entire brooder room because you want to stop air or maintain the room temperature, if you seal everywhere you will suffer poor ventilation.

A poor ventilation in your brooder room will trap ammonia gas, form moisture, create dust and sometimes carbon dioxide.

Ammonia gas will cause watery eyes, irritation, damage in the respiratory tract, CRD etc

Moisture will wet your litter and microorganisms will start to multiply fast, fungi will start to grow and attack your birds etc.

Dust is one of the ways through which disease transmit in poultry, that which you call dust is harbouring many microorganisms. In a situation of poor ventilation the dust that suppose to go out will be trapped inside your brooder room, your birds will start to inhale it and disease will start to spread.

Finally, always create a small opening when you are brooding to increase ventilation, it will not affect your birds negatively rather it will protect them from dangerous gases and diseases. Remember, faraway from the hatchery in an open air those birds were conveyed to you and nothing happened to them .
