To my greatest surprise in my lifetime, Tinubu has dulled the reasoning ability of the average Yoruba man.

I know for a fact that Yoruba people are very smart and intelligent, but Tinubu has made some, if not the majority, reason along ethnic lines when choosing leaders. Very unfortunate.

*Title: Gowon’s _My Life of Duty and Allegiance_ Is an Insult to the Dead, the Igbo Nation, and Nigeria’s Fallen Heroes*

I have read General Yakubu Gowon’s new book, _My Life of Duty and Allegiance_. Putting the facts straight, the book misrepresents history.

This book is an insult to the dead. An insult to the Igbo nation. An insult to the collective heroes who fought and died in a senseless war that the Igbo never initiated.

The Aburi Accord of January 1967 was our last chance to avoid bloodshed. Military leaders met in Ghana, reached agreements, and shook hands on a path to peace. For the Igbo nation, Aburi was hope. It was compromise. It was trust.

But in _My Life of Duty and Allegiance_, General Gowon edits that history. He twists the narrative of Aburi to suit one perspective. He turns documented agreements into disputed memories. That is not history. That is revision written with power.

When a man who was Head of State during the war publishes a book that distorts the events, the wound does not close. It opens again. The younger generation who never heard the gunshots are confused. Families who lost fathers, mothers, and children are hurt all over again. National reconciliation becomes harder because facts have been replaced with edits.

Aburi is not just a meeting in a book for the Igbo nation. It is the moment trust was broken. To have that moment misrepresented by one of the principal actors is painful. To have the war framed as something the Igbo “initiated” is false. It dishonors every hero, every civilian, every child who died.

Truth does not fear scrutiny. But history must not be written to serve one man’s legacy. Nigeria cannot build a future on edited facts and worthless pages.

General Gowon owes the Igbo nation and Nigerians an apology. Not for leadership, but for distorting the record. An apology will not bring back the dead, but it will show respect for them. It will show respect for truth.

_My Life of Duty and Allegiance_, as it stands, misrepresents history and dishonors memory. The record on Aburi must be corrected. Nigerians deserve the truth. The dead deserve dignity. The Igbo nation deserves an apology.

*The Unity of Nigeria as a Weaponization of People's Rights*
_When "One Nigeria" becomes a tool to silence, control, and deny self-determination_

“One Nigeria” is the loudest slogan in our politics. But for 66 years, that unity has not protected lives, built prosperity, or delivered justice. Instead, it has been weaponized.

*1. Unity used to silence questions*
Any group that asks for restructuring, regional control, or referendum is quickly labeled “enemy of unity”. So “unity” becomes a gag order. It shuts down debate and criminalizes the right of people to discuss their own future.

*2. Unity used to centralize power*
Resources from the Niger Delta, taxes from Lagos, land from the Middle Belt — all flow to Abuja under “national unity”. But the regions that produce the wealth have the least control over it. That’s not unity. That’s centralized extraction in the name of oneness.

*3. Unity used to deny rights*
The right to self-determination is in the UN Charter. Yet in Nigeria, demanding that right is treated as treason. So “unity” is placed above the people’s rights. When a concept is more important than human lives, that concept has become a weapon.

*4. Unity without consent is occupation*
Real unity is voluntary. Marriage without consent is forced. Business without agreement collapses. A nation built on 1914 amalgamation, with no referendum from the people, cannot claim moral unity 66 years later.

*The way forward:*
Stop weaponizing unity against the people. If Nigeria must remain, let it be through negotiation, restructuring, or a new constitution agreed by all nations inside it — like the 1963 regional system. If that fails, let each nation exercise its right to separate peacefully.

“Unity” should protect rights, not cancel them. Until then, “One Nigeria” will remain a slogan used to manage a killing field, not build a free nation.
