*BCO 2027: CALIBRATING TOWARDS ENDING ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE DEFICIT IN OGUN*
"Another road accident again!" thundered Kola, my farmer colleague as i adroitly guided my motorcycle to a safe place. We were both on our way back from a remote farm in Sagamu on the 3rd of October, 2025.
"It's a tragic fuel tanker explosion that has left several people feared dead and properties destroyed along Abeokuta -Sagamu expressway! " I throttled in exclamation as we both sat down under a tree watching the vestiges of destruction for some minutes.
"In fact, a cataclysmic accident occurred along this same Abeokuta -Sagamu expressway in July 2025 which claimed four lives, including those of school children" Kola wondered.
"I could remember vividly " i responded.
I added "when i heard the news then, my blood ran cold. The details were etched into my mind like a horrible memory. I started gazing through all the roads in Ogun state religiously in my mind. While most roads are still candidly bad, grumpy road users are eternally cantankerous."
"Of all the road accidents in the state, TRACE never acknowledged bad roads as a cause."
"Yes Kola, it's true oo - even the fatal accident that occurred near ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Lagos -Abeokuta expressway in August 2025 which was obviously caused by bad roads, guess what TRACE said caused it."
"What?"
"Fake and expires tyres!"
"Really? I could remember that accident led to the death of six people including the driver, while 19 others sustained varying degrees of injuries."
"Kola, the road deficit in this state and consequences of neglect is alarming."
"Hossana and Gbogidi roads in Ilaro are seriously in deplorable state."
"Is it the Papalanto to Ilaro road you want to talk about?"
