Jean Edwards Oils - JE OILS LTD has officially achieved Organic Certification for our shea butter, and this is no small feat!

Anyone who has ever gone through the organic certification process knows exactly how much blood, sweat, and tears go into it. Obtaining ECOCERT Organic Certification is not just a badge, it is a global standard that recognises excellence in environmental responsibility, social impact, and ethical production.

ECOCERT, founded in France in 1991, is one of the world’s most respected organic certification bodies, operating across more than 80 countries. To be recognised by them is a powerful affirmation of the integrity of our work, our processes, and our unwavering commitment to quality.

This milestone is not just for JE Oils, it is a step forward for the entire Nigerian shea industry. It puts us firmly on the global map and strengthens our position as a trusted producer of high-quality, ethically processed shea butter.

None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary dedication of our team. Faith Toyin Berida, our exceptional Factory Manager, led this process with diligence and discipline, supported strongly by Nanfa Binlam. Together with the rest of our hardworking staff, they pushed through every challenge.

When we finally received the certificates, we downloaded them in every language possible — that’s how unreal and rewarding it felt!

To ECOCERT, thank you for putting us through a rigorous process. It was tough, but it should be tough.

And as we say in Nigeria: NO BE SMALL TIN!

Nigeria is Waking Up to Shea!

The recent directive by President Tinubu to ban the export of raw shea nuts is monumental for Nigeria and for our women, families, and businesses rooted in the shea value chain. The recent directive marks a significant step forward for one of Nigeria’s most valuable natural resources. At JE Oils, we welcome this news with open arms and renewed optimism.

For far too long, Nigeria, despite being home to the largest population of shea trees in the world, has been exporting raw nuts and kernels, only to import finished butter and derivatives at far higher costs. This practice drained value from our local processors, discouraged innovation, and left our hardworking rural women (who have perfected the art of shea butter processing for generations) struggling to compete.

At JE Oils, we are jumping for joy. Why? Because this decision opens the door to a new era of protection, scalability, and value addition.

✅ It means more support for domestic processing industries, encouraging investment in infrastructure and innovation.
✅ It means better prices for processors and, of course, our rural women, who have always been the custodians of this precious natural resource.
✅ It positions Nigeria to take its rightful place as a global leader in shea butter production and export, not just as a raw material supplier.

It enables a future where Nigeria is not just a supplier of raw materials but a global leader in finished shea products.

But let’s be clear, shea is tough work. It is not for the faint-hearted. Success requires long-term investment, patience, and resilience. It demands commitment and long-term vision, hence with this policy shift, we believe the tide has turned and moved the future of shea to include Nigerian-made, Nigerian-processed, and globally celebrated.

Now, more than ever, we must focus on:

• Building local capacity to process beyond kernels into butter and finished products.
• Strengthening supply chains that are fair, ethical, and sustainable.
• Educating the world that Nigerian shea is not just an export commodity but a global gold standard.

So, we stand for Nigeria, saying NO to raw shea nut and kernel exports and see this as a turning point for our industry!

It was a simply amazing to attend the In-Cosmetics Global Exhibition in Amsterdam. On behalf of the Jean Edwards Oils - JE OILS LTD team, we thank everyone who took the time to visit our stand and explore the possibility of working together.
