To keep eggs fresh and safe, store them properly:

Refrigerate them: Keep eggs in the refrigerator at or below 4°C (40°F).
Keep them in their original carton: The carton protects them from absorbing odors and helps prevent moisture loss.
Store on a middle shelf: Avoid the refrigerator door, where temperatures fluctuate every time it's opened.
Place them with the pointed end down: This helps keep the yolk centered and can extend freshness.

Don't wash eggs before storing: If they are commercially washed, they're ready to refrigerate. Washing farm-fresh eggs can remove their natural protective coating unless you plan to use them soon.
Use within 3–5 weeks: Refrigerated eggs are generally safe for several weeks after purchase. Check the expiration or "best by" date for guidance.

If you're unsure whether an egg is still good, crack it into a separate bowl first. If it has an unusual smell, color, or texture, discard it. The common "float test" can give a rough idea of age but isn't a reliable way to determine safety.
