Let's talk about perfume etiquette because smelling good is nice… but knowing when to stop is even nicer. 😂😭

Have you ever entered a room and immediately knew someone had applied perfume?

Not because they walked past you…

You knew from the entrance. 😭😂

Your perfume should make people think:

"Hmm, somebody smells really good." 🤌🏽

Not:

"Please, who opened a whole perfume shop in this room?" 😂😂

So here are a few simple perfume etiquette rules:

🤍 1. Don't overapply.
You don't need half the bottle to prove that you smell good. Especially in enclosed spaces like offices, classrooms, churches or public transport.

🤍 2. Think about where you're going.
A fragrance that works for a night out may be too much for a small office or a crowded room. Consider the people around you.

🤍 3. Give people some personal space.
Your perfume should be discovered when someone gets close—not from three seats away. 😂

🤍 4. Be careful around people with sensitivities.
Some people are sensitive to fragrance. If you're going somewhere enclosed, keeping your application moderate is considerate.

🤍 5. Don't use perfume to cover poor hygiene.
Perfume is the finishing touch, not the bath. 😭😂
Clean body first. Fragrance second.

🤍 6. Don't spray someone else without asking.
I know you love your perfume, but please don't turn your friend's body into your testing ground. 😂

At the end of the day, good perfume etiquette is about balance.

Smell good.

Feel confident.

Leave an impression.

But don't make everybody in the room experience your fragrance whether they asked for it or not. 😂🤍

What's one perfume habit you think people need to stop doing? 👀👇🏽

Good morning, beautiful people. 🤍☀️

Before you step out today, let me remind you of something...

You don't have to feel 100% confident every single day.

Some mornings, you wake up excited and ready to conquer the world.

Other mornings, you're just trying to convince yourself to leave your bed. 😂😭

Both are normal.

But don't wait until you feel confident before you show up.

Get dressed.

Fix yourself up.

Apply that perfume you've been saving for a "special occasion." 👀😂

Look in the mirror and remind yourself:

"I may not have everything figured out, but I'm still showing up."

That's confidence too.

Confidence isn't walking into every room believing you're better than everyone else.

Sometimes, it's simply knowing who you are, what you're working towards, and refusing to shrink yourself because you're still becoming.

Walk into today with intention.

Speak kindly.

Carry yourself well.

And please...

smell good while doing it. 🤭😂🤍

You never know whose day you'll brighten—or whose memory you'll become part of.

Now go and have a beautiful day. 🌹

What is ONE thing you're determined to accomplish today? 👇🏽

Why perfume oils are concentrated 🤔

Have you ever used perfume oil and thought:

“Wait… why did just this little amount smell this strong?” 😂

That's one of the things I like about perfume oils.

They're generally made with a higher proportion of fragrance materials compared with many body mists or lighter sprays, with a carrier such as a cosmetic oil.

Think about making zobo. 😂

If you put a tiny amount of your zobo concentrate into a lot of water, the taste becomes very light.

But if you use more concentrate and less water, the flavour becomes richer and more noticeable.

Fragrance concentration works on a similar idea.

That's why with perfume oils, you usually don't need to bathe yourself in the product. 😭😂

A few small applications can be enough to give you a beautiful scent.

But here's something people sometimes get wrong:

More concentrated doesn't automatically mean "lasts 24 hours."

How long a fragrance lasts depends on the actual formulation, the ingredients used, your skin, the weather, your activity and how you apply it.

So when you buy a perfume oil, you're not supposed to empty half the bottle on yourself just because you want it to last. 😂

Start small. Let it settle. Enjoy the fragrance.

And if someone sitting beside you suddenly says,

"Hmm... you smell really good." 👀

You've probably applied enough. 😂🤍

Are you the type that applies perfume lightly, or do you keep adding "just one more" until the bottle starts looking worried? 😭😂

Have you ever worn the same perfume in two different weather conditions and wondered why it suddenly smells different? 😂

You didn't imagine it.

The weather can actually affect how your fragrance performs. 🌦️

Think about a hot Lagos afternoon. 😭

You apply your perfume oil in the morning and by midday you're sweating, moving around, and wondering why the fragrance seems stronger—or different—from how it smelled when you first applied it.

Now compare that with a cooler day.

The same fragrance may feel softer and stay closer to your skin.

Here's the simple breakdown:

☀️ HOT WEATHER

Heat can make fragrance evaporate and project more quickly.

So your perfume may smell stronger at first, but you might also notice it changing or fading sooner.

This is why you don't necessarily need to keep adding more perfume every hour. 😂

🌧️ HUMID WEATHER

Humidity can also affect how fragrance develops on your skin. You may notice certain notes feeling heavier, richer or more noticeable.

And if you're sweating a lot, that can affect your overall scent too.

❄️ COOLER WEATHER

Fragrance often develops more slowly in cooler conditions.

Some warm, woody and sweet scents can feel especially beautiful because they stay closer to the skin and unfold gradually.

So if your perfume smells slightly different on different days...

Don't immediately blame the perfume. 😂

Your skin, the weather, how active you are and even how much you apply can all play a role.

And this is why I always say:

Don't judge a fragrance after five minutes.

Give it time.

Let it settle.

See how it behaves on your skin, in your environment, throughout your day. 🤍

Because finding your signature scent isn't just about finding something that smells good in the bottle.

It's about finding something that smells good on you.

Now tell me...

Do you notice your perfume performing differently when the weather is really hot? 👀

Let's talk about fragrance families.

Because someone will say:

"I want something fresh, but not too fresh... sweet, but not too sweet... and maybe woody, but not smelling like a forest." 😭😂

I understand you. 🤝🏽

Fragrances are often grouped into families based on the kinds of smells that dominate them.

Here's the simple version:

🍎 Fruity — Think fresh fruits like apple, pear, berries or citrus.

Usually playful, juicy and easy to enjoy.

🌹 Floral — Think rose, jasmine, lavender and other flowers.

Soft, feminine, romantic and sometimes very elegant.

🍦 Gourmand — If you like smelling like you could be someone's favourite dessert... welcome here. 😂

Think vanilla, caramel, chocolate and other sweet, edible-smelling notes.

🌿 Fresh — Clean, airy and refreshing.

Think green tea, citrus, aquatic or crisp green scents.

🌳 Woody — Warm, earthy and grounded.

Think sandalwood, cedarwood and other woody notes.

🌶️ Spicy — Warm, rich and sometimes a little mysterious.

Think cinnamon, pepper, clove and similar spices.

And here's where it gets interesting...

A fragrance doesn't have to belong to only one family.

Your perfume can be fruity AND sweet.

Fresh AND woody.

Floral AND musky.

That's why two perfumes can both be called "sweet" and still smell completely different.

For example, at Selah:

🍎 Bloom combines apple, vanilla and amber — giving it a fruity, sweet and warm character.

🍃 Haven brings together bergamot, green tea, vanilla and sandalwood — fresh, soft and grounded.

🤎 Aura combines bergamot, sandalwood and amber — fresh at first, then warmer and more woody.

So instead of asking only:

"What perfume smells nice?"

Try asking:

"What kind of scent feels like ME?"

Now let's see where everyone belongs. 😂

Which one sounds most like you?
🍎 Fruity
🌹 Floral
🍦 Sweet/Gourmand
🌿 Fresh
🌳 Woody
🌶️ Spicy

How many sprays of perfume are actually enough? 👀

Because some people apply perfume like they're trying to fumigate the whole house. 😭😂

And then there are those who do:

pssst...

"Is it enough?"

pssst...

"Maybe one more."

pssst...

Before you know it, the perfume bottle is looking at you like:

"Please, I beg you." 😭😂

The truth is, there's no magic number that works for every fragrance or every person.

It depends on the strength of the fragrance, where you're applying it, your skin, the weather and even how close you want people to be before they notice it.

For a perfume oil, you usually don't need a lot.

Start small.

Apply a little to your pulse points—your wrists, neck, behind your ears—and give it some time to settle.

If you can smell yourself strongly from across the room, you may have already crossed the line. 😂

Remember:

The goal is not to enter a room before your body does. 😭

You want someone sitting beside you to think:

"Hmm... somebody smells really good." 🤭

Not:

"WHO JUST POURED A WHOLE BOTTLE OF PERFUME HERE?" 😂😂

So next time you apply your perfume, start with less.

You can always add a little more.

Now be honest: are you a 2-dabs-and-go person or a "let me apply one more" person? 😂👇🏽

Can we talk about something for a minute? 👀

Because I've realized that when it comes to perfumes, we hear a lot of things.

"This ingredient is dangerous."

"That perfume enters your bloodstream."

"Never apply perfume here."

And before you know it, we're all scared of our perfume bottles. 😂😭

Here's what I've learned:

Fragrance safety isn't about whether something is simply called "perfume oil," "natural," or "chemical."

It's about what ingredients are actually being used, how they're formulated, the concentration, and how the product is intended to be used.

And yes, some people can react to certain fragrance ingredients.

That's real.

If a product causes you itching, burning, redness, swelling or another concerning reaction, don't force yourself to keep using it just because "it smells too good to waste." 😭

Your skin is literally saying, "Madam, please leave me alone." 😂

At the same time, we shouldn't turn every fragrance concern into a scary claim without checking whether there's actual evidence behind it.

As a perfume brand owner, I'm learning that creating fragrance isn't just about making something smell beautiful.

It's also about responsibility.

Knowing what you're using.

Using it appropriately.

Being honest with your customers.

And continuously learning how to do better.

Because yes, I want you to smell amazing.

But I'd rather you trust Selah because we're honest and intentional, not because we're pretending that perfume has zero risks for every single person.

Beautiful fragrance. Responsible use. No unnecessary fear. 🤍

Have you ever heard a perfume "fact" online that sounded so scary you immediately stopped using your perfume? 😂👇🏽

So you've been applying your perfume oil everywhere except where it actually makes sense? 😭😂

Let's talk about pulse points.

You know those spots where you can easily feel your heartbeat?

Your wrists.

Sides of your neck.

Behind your ears.

Inner elbows.

Those are some of the spots people call pulse points.

And they're useful places to apply fragrance because these areas tend to be warmer than some other parts of your skin.

That warmth can help the fragrance develop and release gradually.

But please don't misunderstand me. 😂

Pulse points are not magical fragrance buttons. 😭

Applying perfume there doesn't guarantee that it will suddenly last 24 hours.

Your skin, the fragrance itself, the weather and your activity all matter too.

The goal is simply to apply your perfume oil strategically instead of rubbing it randomly everywhere.

Try this the next time you wear your perfume:

Behind your ears → sides of your neck → wrists.

Apply a small amount.

Let it settle.

Then go about your day.

And if someone gets close to you later and says...

"You smell really good. What are you wearing?" 👀

Just smile. 😂🤭

Do you normally apply your perfume on your wrists, neck, clothes—or everywhere? 👇🏽🤍

Have you ever smelled someone and thought, "Wait... what perfume are you wearing?" 👀

Sometimes, the secret isn't one perfume.

It's layering. 🤭

Think of it like getting dressed.

You don't just put on one piece of clothing and call it an outfit.

You combine things that work well together.

Fragrance can work the same way.

🤍 Start with your base.
A clean, moisturized skin gives your fragrance something to sit on. If you're using body lotion, choose something unscented or one that complements your perfume.

🤍 Then add your perfume oil.
Apply it to your pulse points—wrists, neck, behind the ears, inner elbows.

🤍 You can also layer fragrances.
But please... don't combine five different perfumes and turn yourself into a walking chemistry experiment. 😭😂

Start with two scents that complement each other.

For example, a fresh scent can be paired with something soft and warm. A fruity fragrance can work beautifully with a creamy vanilla scent.

The goal isn't to make people smell you from the next street. 😂

It's to create a scent that feels uniquely yours.

And here's the fun part:

You can experiment until you find a combination that makes you think...

"Yep. This smells like ME." 🤍

If you could create your own fragrance combination, would you go for:

🍎 Fruity + Sweet
🌿 Fresh + Clean
🌹 Floral + Warm
🌳 Woody + Sweet

Which one are you choosing? 👀👇🏽

Have you ever tried your friend's perfume and thought... "This smells SO good on her!" 😭

Then you bought the same one, wore it...

And somehow you're smelling like a completely different person. 😂

No, your perfume isn't fake.

And no, your friend didn't secretly get a different bottle. 😂

Your skin is simply different.

Here's the interesting part about fragrance:

A perfume oil doesn't always smell exactly the same on everyone because it interacts with your skin chemistry.

Your skin's natural oils, moisture, temperature and even things like weather can affect how a fragrance develops.

That's why the same perfume can smell:

✨ sweeter on one person
✨ fresher on another
✨ warmer or deeper on someone else

And that's actually one of the beautiful things about fragrance.

You're not just wearing the perfume.

Your skin becomes part of the fragrance.

So please, don't choose a perfume solely because it smells amazing on your sister, friend or that woman you passed at church. 😂

It might smell completely different on you.

Try it on your own skin.

Give it some time.

Walk around with it.

Then ask yourself:

"Do I like how THIS smells on ME?"

Because your signature scent shouldn't just smell good...

It should smell like you. 🤍

Have you ever bought a perfume because you loved it on someone else, only to discover it smelled completely different on you? 😂👇🏽
