SHADIS is at the forefront of promoting AQUA-DIVERSIFICATION in Ondo State, Nigeria 🇳🇬
In a bold step towards advancing sustainable aquaculture and strengthening food security, SHADIS Integrated Farms and Solutions, in partnership with CAFFAN and WORLDFISH, is promoting the immense opportunities embedded in aqua-diversification.
Through knowledge sharing, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives, SHADIS is helping fish farmers discover the economic and environmental benefits of cultivating multiple freshwater fish species beyond the conventional focus on catfish farming.
The forthcoming one-day Fish Farmers' Training Workshop on "SUSTAINABLE FISH PRODUCTION THROUGH AQUA-DIVERSIFICATION" serves as a strategic platform to enlighten farmers on innovative production systems, species diversification, improved farm profitability, risk reduction, and market expansion.
By encouraging the cultivation of species such as GIFT Tilapia, Pangasius, and Red-Bellied Pacu alongside catfish, farmers can unlock new income streams, enhance productivity, and build more resilient aquaculture enterprises.
Ondo State possesses enormous aquaculture potential that remains largely untapped. Blessed with abundant freshwater resources, including rivers, reservoirs, wetlands, and a strategic coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, the state is uniquely positioned to become a leading hub for both freshwater and marine aquaculture in Nigeria.
Yet, much of this potential remains underutilized, presenting significant opportunities for investment, innovation, employment generation, food production, and economic growth.
AQUA-DIVERSIFICATION is not merely a farming strategy; it is a pathway to unlocking Ondo State's vast aquatic wealth, increasing fish production, strengthening food security, creating sustainable livelihoods, and building a more resilient aquaculture industry. SHADIS remains committed to empowering farmers with the knowledge, skills, and vision required to drive the next phase of aquaculture transformation in Ondo State and beyond.
