3,123kg of catfish processed today, but hereās the shocker:The ClarĆas gariepinus gave us over ā¦639,000 worth of waste from just 1,047kg! Thatās 18% waste ā mostly intestines and fish eggs with very low resale value.Meanwhile, the Hybrid (Heteroclarias) gave us only 3.4% waste from 2,076kg ā more meat, less loss, and better value for smoking.š This is why, as a fish processor who smokes and sells fish, I never buy Clarias gariepinus. Itās too wasteful, less rugged, and less profitable after drying.ā”ļø Lesson for farmers: If youāre raising catfish for processors like me, go for the Hybrid (Heteroclarias).āļø Less wasteāļø Better yieldāļø Disease resistantāļø Stronger fleshāļø Higher ROIInstead of crying over waste, Iām repurposing it ā using all the intestines to feed our Vundu Catfish (Heterobranchus longifilis) in the dam.
