Bonny Indigenous Fishermen 🐟 Proud Bonny Indigenous Fishermen Union 🌊 | Advocating for fishermen's rights since 1999

Established in 1999, the Bonny Indigenous Fishermen Cooperative Union emerged in response to the injustices, neglect, and disrespect faced by fishermen and their occupation at the hands of I.O.Cs in Bonny since Shell's inception in 1958. The union garnered support from traditional leaders and the local government, culminating in the signing of the Bonny M.O.U in September 1999, a significant miles

tone for the fishing community. Since its inception, the union has tirelessly advocated for and supported the fishing occupation. Initiatives include empowerment schemes for fishing gears and wares, outboard engines, safety at sea lectures, and collaboration with security agencies to address issues like piercing and maritime crime. The union, led by President Comrade Promise Bristol, takes pride in its achievements, notably receiving international recognition in Abijan last year. To sustain this momentum, the union appeals to all to lend their support and contribute to its ongoing efforts. Together, we can achieve even more for our fishing community. 🎣🌊
