WORLD HANDWASHING DAY

As a National Health Fellow in Cross River State, representing Bani Local Government Area, I join other fellows across the country in commemorating World Handwashing Day.

In collaboration with the NextGen Child and Adolescent Initiative (NEGCAHI), this awareness was strengthened to promote sustained hygiene practices at community level, with a focus on consistent handwashing with soap as a key public health intervention.

Hand hygiene remains a critical preventive measure in breaking the chain of infection, reducing the transmission of communicable diseases, and preventing outbreaks such as diarrheal and respiratory illnesses. It is a simple but powerful practice that protects individuals, families, and the wider community.

Sustaining this behavior is essential for long-term public health impact, especially in settings where disease transmission is driven by poor hygiene practices.

Clean hands remain a first line of defense in safeguarding health and wellbeing.
