WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF IGBO-EZE NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, DR. CHRIS ONYEKACHI SIMON, AT THE INAUGURATION AND SWEARING-IN CEREMONY OF THE 2026 ELECTED COUNCILLORS
Protocol.
Distinguished guests, respected traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders, party stakeholders, heads of departments, security personnel, members of the press, and the good people of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, I warmly welcome you all to this historic and important occasion.
Today marks another significant chapter in our collective journey towards grassroots development, democratic governance, peace, and progress in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. We have gathered to witness the inauguration and swearing-in of our councillors, who have been entrusted with the responsibility of representing their respective wards and serving the interests of our people.
On behalf of the local government administration, I congratulate all the councillors on their emergence and assumption of office. Your election is not merely a position of honour; it is a call to service, sacrifice, accountability, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
As you take your oaths of office today, I urge you to remember that the mandate you have received belongs to the people. You must, therefore, remain accessible, transparent, responsible, and committed to addressing the needs and concerns of your constituents.
My dear councillors, leadership is not about the privileges of office but about the positive impact you make in the lives of the people. Let your actions demonstrate humility, integrity, fairness, and dedication to the common good.
As the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, I look forward to working closely with all councillors, irrespective of political differences, to promote unity, strengthen our democratic institutions, and advance development across our communities.
Our administration recognises the importance of effective legislative representation at the grassroots. I encourage the councillors to work constructively with the executive arm of the local government while maintaining their constitutional responsibilities and ensuring that the interests of their wards are adequately represented.
We must collectively prioritise the needs of our people, including the improvement of rural infrastructure, sanitation, primary healthcare, education, security, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities for our residents.
I also wish to acknowledge the traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, and all those who have contributed to the democratic process and the peaceful conduct of this exercise. Your support and cooperation remain essential to the continued growth and stability of our local government.
To the people of Igbo-Eze North, I appeal for your continued support, constructive engagement, and cooperation with your elected representatives. Democracy thrives when leaders listen to the people and when citizens participate responsibly in the development of their communities.
As we inaugurate this new council, let us put aside unnecessary divisions and work together towards a more peaceful, united, prosperous, and progressive Igbo-Eze North.
Once again, I congratulate the newly inaugurated councillors and wish you a successful and impactful tenure. May your service bring meaningful development to your respective wards and to the entire local government area.
Thank you all for honouring us with your presence.
Long live Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area!
Long live Enugu State!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Thank you, and God bless us all.
