🚨Cristiano Ronaldo after Al-Nassr’s comeback was asked about Bruno Fernandes winning the PFA award:
🗣️ Reporter: “Cristiano, there were reports all day claiming Declan Rice had won the PFA award before the ceremony. Did you see them?”
🗣️ Ronaldo: “I saw them. [laughs] I thought maybe someone wanted to give Arsenal fans something to celebrate before the ceremony started.
“Bruno had already won the Premier League Player of the Season, the Football Writers’ award and The Athletic’s Player of the Year. At some point I was thinking, ‘How many awards does this guy need to win before everyone accepts he was the best player?’ [laughs]
🗣️ Reporter: “But Rice had an unbelievable season too.”
🗣️ Ronaldo: “Of course. Declan is a fantastic player and he deserved all the praise he received. But when you look at what Bruno did, there was a different level of consistency and influence.
“If the Premier League chose Bruno, the writers chose Bruno, The Athletic chose Bruno and then the players chose Bruno too, I think the message is very clear. These are different groups of people watching the same season and reaching the same conclusion.
“And the PFA is special because the players are voting. They know what it feels like to stand opposite Bruno, they know the pressure he puts on you and they know how difficult it is to perform at that level every week.
“So when they all choose Bruno, I don’t think there is much more to discuss. Maybe we should stop giving him awards now. [laughs] He has collected enough this season to make the point.”
