Requirements & Facilities for Starting Grasscutter Farming in Africa 🇳🇬

Grasscutter farming is profitable, practical, and beginner-friendly when done correctly.

Below is what you need to know 👇

1) Grasscutter Cage / Pen
Grasscutters live in colonies, not as single animals.
A standard colony consists of:
2 males + 3 females OR
1 male + 4 females
(Total = 5 grasscutters per cage)

Grasscutters can be reared in:
Wooden cage
Iron cage
Concrete cage
A vacant room (if properly prepared)

✅ Wooden or iron cages are best for beginners because they are movable.

If the environment is not favorable, you can easily relocate them.

⚠️ With concrete cages, relocation is difficult. If the environment is bad, you may have to rebuild another cage.

📌 Adult colonies (7–8 months old) are sold above ₦200,000+ depending on quality and location.

Grasscutters feed mainly on natural and farm produce, including:
Cassava tuber
Guinea grass
Elephant grass
Sugarcane stems

Sweet potato
Vegetables
