SUCCESS STORY: SFRF 2023/2024 – TEAM RENAISSANCE
Under the visionary leadership of Raji Noah T., the 2023/2024 tenure of the Students’ Farm Research Foundation (SFRF) began with a mission to realign our work with our founding goals, despite serious financial constraints.
Phase I: Agricultural Engagement
We launched with maize and vegetable cultivation. Early setbacks challenged our resolve, but we chose resilience, seeing the experience as vital preparation for the real-world challenges farmers face.
Phase II: Tomato Training & Climate Lessons
In partnership with UI’s Teaching and Research Farm, we trained members on tomato production. Though initial transplanting went well, climate change disrupted rainfall, forcing us to adapt with manual irrigation, a key lesson in sustainable farming.
Phase III: Poultry Empowerment
With Entojutu Sustainable Foundation, we trained 10 undergraduates in broiler production and empowered 11 beneficiaries, including widows of Nigerian Army officers, with 300 birds. One star participant, Esther Akomolafe, raised 50 broilers with *zero* mortality.
Phase IV: Rabbitry & Vegetable Expansion
We expanded our rabbitry project from 2% to 16%, mentored members, and launched successful vegetable trainings in partnership with Felix Farm and Agric Learner.
OUR IMPACT:
* Trained 10 students in practical agriculture
* Grew SFRF’s revenue from 20% to over 70%
* Contributed to SDGs 1 & 8: No Poverty, Decent Work & Economic Growth
We thank:
Dr. Abiola, Prof. Ososanya, Prof. Shokunbi, Prof. Olugasa, Ento Team, Felix Farm, the Coordinating Council, and all members.
And above all, we thank God for wisdom and strength.
As we hand over, we are proud of the seeds sown. May the next team grow them into a greater harvest.
With gratitude,
Team Renaissance – SFRF 2023/2024
