🥚💧 How to know if your egg is still good 👀

Here’s a simple poultry tip you can try at home:

✔️ If the egg sinks and stays flat at the bottom — it’s fresh ✅
✔️ If it stands upright slightly — it’s still okay but should be used soon 👍
❌ If it floats — it’s no longer fresh 🚫

Fresh eggs are heavier because they contain less air inside. As eggs age, more air enters the shell, causing them to float.

Week 1 with the chicks and the progress is showing.

They came in fragile and fully dependent.

One week later, feathering has started, they're more alert, and they rush the feeder like they mean business.

First Lasota and Gumboro vaccines are already done.

But this first week is the most critical part of the whole cycle. Get it wrong here and you'll pay for it all the way to point of lay.

What we don't joke with at this stage:
Brooding temperature, watching the chicks themselves and not just the thermometer.

Clean water always available, with vitamins and electrolytes to help them recover from transport stress.

Fresh feed, never empty, because they eat little but often. And strict biosecurity, because one careless mistake this week can wipe out months of work.

The decisions made in these first 14 days will show up in body weight, uniformity, and eventual egg production.

Layer farming is a long game, but the foundation is being laid right now.
