Traditional Munga Marriage
Marriage among the Munga people is traditionally viewed as a union not only between a man and a woman, but also between two families and their wider communities.
Choosing a partner
A young man and woman may develop a relationship, while their families and elders have an important role in recognizing and approving the relationship.
Family introduction
The man's family approaches the woman's family to formally express their intention to marry her. Elders from both families discuss the proposed union.
Family agreement
The families reach an understanding about the marriage and the responsibilities of both sides. Elders traditionally play an important role in settling questions and ensuring that the union is acceptable.
Marriage preparations
Both families prepare for the ceremony. Relatives, friends and community members participate by providing food, assistance and other forms of support.
Traditional ceremony
The couple is brought together before their families and community. Traditional clothing, music, dancing, food and other cultural expressions may form part of the celebration.
Blessing of the couple
Elders give advice and blessings to the newly married couple, emphasizing respect, faithfulness, cooperation and responsibility toward both families.

During the farming season, Munga families prepare their farmlands, clear the bushes, plant crops, and work together until harvest. Men, women, and young people all contribute their strength and skills to ensure that the community has enough food.
Preparing the Farm
Before planting begins, farmers clear and prepare their farms. Families often work together, helping one another with difficult tasks. Traditional knowledge about the land, weather, seeds, and planting periods is passed from older generations to younger ones.
