So I learnt something today and I thought to share 😊
This doesn’t just apply to Project Managers.
It applies to business owners, corporate bodies, creatives — anyone offering a service.

There’s one fundamental factor that is often ignored in service exchange:

Scope Creep.

Scope creep is not an accident.
It is human nature.

It’s when a project quietly becomes bigger than what was originally agreed.

Yes, people change their minds.
They get new ideas.
They get emotional.
They see something online and want to add it.

Don’t get burnt out by it.

Instead:
Expect change.
Plan for it.
Price for it.

Because if you don’t manage scope, scope will manage you.

📝 Note this carefully:

Every “small addition” is a real cost.

“Can we just add this?”
“It’s a small thing.”
“It won’t take much.”

My dear… the smallest things add up.

If it was not in the original agreement, it must be:
Reviewed.
Re-costed.
Approved.

Professional boundaries protect your profit.

Always have Plan A, B, and C.

Contingency is not greed.
It is survival.

Add 5–15% for backup and risk.
Do the maths.

Prices change.
People delay.
Emergencies happen.

Build:
• A financial buffer
• A time buffer
• An emotional buffer

If you don’t budget for risk, you will personally pay for it.

And never forget this:

Emotion is a silent risk.

The closer you get to a client, the harder it becomes to say no.

You start absorbing extra work.
You avoid hard conversations.
You bend the very rules guiding your service.

Compassion without structure leads to loss.

You can care — and still enforce the contract.

● A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. It must have a start and an endpoint.

● Projects can stand alone or be part of a program or portfolio.

● A project differs from programs, portfolios and operations; however, they may all

be linked by an overall strategy or strategic objective.

● A program is a set of related projects, subsidiary programs, and program activities that are managed in a coordinated manner to obtain benefits not available from managing them individually.

● A portfolio refers to projects, programs, subsidiary portfolios, and operations managed as a group to achieve strategic objectives.

● Project Management focuses on the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to ensure the successful delivery of projects and project outcomes.

● Project Management is applicable across a wide variety of projects and industries

● Project Governance provides a structured framework to deliver projects, resolve

conflicts, and make decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
