The National Vice Chairman (South West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has accused the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of defaming him and exposing him to ridicule.

Arabambi, in a pre-action demand letter issued through his lawyers, accused Obi of making comments during a recent interview where he was said to have stated that Arabambi “does not have an address.”

Naija News reports that he therefore demanded a public retraction, apology and ₦50 billion in compensation over the alleged defamatory statement made during a podcast interview.

According to Arabambi, in the letter dated July 3, 2026, and issued by Neplus Ultra Attorneys and signed by Anderson U. Asemota, Peter O. Asimegbe and Stanley C. Eziefulle, the claims made by Peter Obi are false, malicious and defamatory, contending that it portrayed their client as a faceless individual, lacking legitimacy, credibility and standing in public life.

The lawyers maintained that the interview was subsequently circulated across television stations and multiple digital platforms, including Facebook, 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp, thereby exposing their client to widespread public ridicule.

The letter reads, “Our Client has had a known residential and business address, maintains professional and political affiliations within Nigeria and has never been a person whose whereabouts or identity were unknown.”

It further argued that the publication damaged Arabambi’s reputation and subjected him to embarrassment and public ridicule.

“The ordinary and natural meaning which reasonable viewers attached to your publication was that our client is a faceless and unidentifiable person, has no known place of residence, lacks any legitimate standing in public life and is undeserving of public confidence,” the lawyers wrote.

The lawyers argued that reactions generated on social media following the interview demonstrated that viewers understood the alleged remark as an attack on Arabambi’s identity and public credibility.

According to the solicitors, Obi, as a prominent political figure and NDC presidential candidate, ought to have exercised greater caution before making statements capable of damaging another person’s reputation.

The letter alleged that the circumstances surrounding the publication disclosed both express and implied malice, insisting that the statement was made with full appreciation of the audience it would reach.

“Our client has suffered considerable embarrassment, humiliation and injury to his reputation. The defamatory publication has impaired his standing in political and social circles and subjected him to needless attacks upon his integrity and personality,” the letter added.

As part of its demands, Arabambi’s legal team requested that Obi, within seven days of receiving the letter, issue “a clear, unequivocal and unconditional retraction” of the alleged defamatory statement on the same podcast or another platform of comparable reach.

The lawyers also demanded an “unreserved public apology” to be broadcast on national television and published on Obi’s verified social media platforms, as well as full-page apologies in Vanguard, The Punch, The Guardian, THISDAY and The Nation newspapers.

In addition, Arabambi is demanding the payment of ₦50 billion, as compensation for what he described as injury to his reputation, dignity, political standing and public image.

The letter further requested a written undertaking from Obi to refrain from making any further allegedly defamatory statements against Arabambi and directed him to preserve all materials relating to the podcast interview, including video recordings, transcripts, correspondence, electronic communications and digital metadata, warning that any destruction or alteration of evidence could be relied upon in future court proceedings.

The solicitors warned that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would leave their client with no option but to institute legal proceedings seeking declarations that the publication was defamatory, general, aggravated and exemplary damages, a perpetual injunction restraining further publication of similar statements, an order compelling a public retraction and apology, interest on monetary awards and the cost of the suit.

“Our Client would have preferred that this unfortunate episode be resolved without recourse to litigation. However, the protection of one’s reputation is a right recognised by law and cannot be surrendered in the face of a false and damaging publication,” the lawyers stated.

Fourteen worshippers abducted during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, crusade in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have regained their freedom after spending more than two months in captivity.

The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the victims were released around midnight on Friday, July 3, 2026, and have since been taken to a hospital, where they are receiving medical attention and undergoing evaluation following their ordeal.

Makama reported that one of the 15 worshippers abducted during the attack died while in captivity, while the remaining victims were released in what was described as critical physical and emotional condition.

The victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when suspected gunmen reportedly attacked an open-air crusade organised by the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.

Makama reported that the officiating pastor was killed during the attack, while 15 worshippers were abducted and taken to an unknown location.

He said, “One of the 15 abducted worshippers died while in captivity. The remaining victims are said to be in critical physical and emotional condition following their ordeal.”

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release or the identity of those responsible for the attack.

According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Friday, July 3, 2026, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), releasing a detailed list of government officials, agencies and institutions it believes should be scrutinised over the matter.

In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC argued that the scandal has raised serious concerns about transparency, accountability and national security under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The party said it had reviewed the Presidency’s July 1 response, delivered by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, but maintained that the explanation failed to address critical issues.

According to the ADC, while the Presidency described PFIPC as a non-existent organisation, evidence suggests it allegedly interacted with government ministries, public institutions and foreign diplomats, receiving official recognition despite its disputed status.

The opposition party insisted the controversy extends beyond allegations against one individual and now affects the credibility of government institutions.

It therefore demanded the establishment of an independent Judicial Panel of Inquiry to uncover the truth.

The ADC wants the following officials and institutions investigated:

1. Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over documents allegedly issued from his office and claims that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi paid bribes ranging from N200 million to N600 million.

2. Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, to determine his role in establishing and promoting PFIPC, verify the authenticity of documents he used, and investigate his claims of making payments to senior government officials.

3. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to clarify whether PFIPC received any official approvals or documentation.

4. Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, to explain reports that over 300 civil servants were recruited into an organisation now described as fictitious.

5. Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, to account for how PFIPC allegedly appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a multi-billion-naira allocation.

6. Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over PFIPC’s reported interactions with foreign diplomats.

7. Office of the National Security Adviser, to explain why the alleged activities were not detected sooner.

8. Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Police Force, to account for their investigations and whether earlier intervention could have prevented the alleged operations.

9. Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over allegations that public funds may have been accessed by the organisation using forged documents.

10. National Assembly oversight committees, including the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, and the House Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements, to explain why official correspondence and invitations were allegedly sent to PFIPC.

The ADC argued that Nigerians deserve clear answers on how the organisation reportedly secured recruitment approvals, budget allocations, diplomatic engagements and official correspondence if it never legally existed. Conversely, if PFIPC was legitimate, the party questioned why the Presidency denied its existence.

The party further accused the Tinubu administration of applying double standards, claiming political opponents are swiftly investigated while senior government officials linked to the scandal have not been asked to step aside.

It warned that if the current administration fails to conduct a transparent probe, an ADC-led government would revisit every approval, financial transaction, budget allocation and official decision connected to the PFIPC controversy, insisting that no individual would be exempt from accountability.

Morocco beat Canada 3-0 in Houston on Saturday to become the first team at the World Cup to progress to the quarterfinals.

Two goals from Azzedine Ounahi in the 50th and 82nd minutes and one from Soufiane Rahimi at the death made the difference for the Atlas Lions, who will go on to play the winner of France and Paraguay in Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium on Thursday.

With the win, Morocco continues its great form at major tournaments, having made the 2022 World Cup semifinals and being – controversially – named African champion earlier this year.

To many, the result would seem a bit unfair to Canada as it seemed to be holding the reins for much of the contest, though as many aficionados of the Beautiful Game can attest, domination of a game – but failing to convert your chances – can sometimes result in the most painful of losses.

Early Canada control

Despite star Alphonso Davies starting the match on the bench, Canada began the game brightly, pressing Morocco very successfully and threatening its goal frequently throughout the first quarter of the match.

Canada’s Tani Oluwaseyi had a great chance to take an early lead in the 11th minute after Les Rouges forced a turnover through a high press and the Villarreal forward produced a great turn to go through on goal, but his shot was fantastically saved by Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.

Making matters worse for the Atlas Lions, star midfielder Ismael Saibari – who recently signed a deal to join European giant Bayern Munich – left the pitch injured in the 23rd minute with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

The hydration break brought some respite for Morocco and it produced its first attempt of the match in the 29th minute though Soufiane Rahimi’s shot was easily saved by Maxime Crepeau.

The match rhythm stayed the same until the 39th minute when Achraf Hakimi pushed Canada’s Richie Laryea in the back following a failed Morocco attack, sparking a bit of a tussle which resulted in yellow cards from referee Michael Oliver for both players involved.

The incident seemed to spark a bit of life into Morocco as its best passages of play happened afterwards, with Canada seeming to lose a step after starting so well. Slightly before halftime though, Bilal El Khannouss was cautioned, becoming the fourth Moroccan player – and sixth overall in the match – to be shown a yellow in the first half.

Second half blues for Les Rouges
The second half began much as the first period ended with Canada in control and Morocco seeming aimless, but things changed almost in an instant.

Against the run of play, the Atlas Lions won a free kick near the corner of the box after Luc De Fougerolles was booked for a cynical challenge. Hakimi took the resultant free kick, playing it to Ounahi in front of the box, and the midfielder curled the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

The match opened up after the goal and Morocco began to assert itself, though Canada continued its efforts to look for a goal.

Les Rouges called for a penalty after Tajon Buchanan was taken down in the Moroccan box by Redouane Halhal, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, negating any potential controversy that could have ensued with referee Oliver’s decision.

It was much of the same until the 76th minute when Stephen Eustáquio was pulled down just outside of the box, giving Canada a free kick on the edge of the area, but Jonathan David sent his effort sailing over the crossbar.

Les Rouges kept pushing for the equalizer though, as Buchanan shot a swerving and dipping effort from distance, forcing a good save from Bounou.

But Morocco put the game away in the 82nd minute on an impressive counterattack. Real Madrid attacker Brahim Díaz went into the right side of the box, dragging two defenders with him before laying the ball back to Ounahi to clinically score his brace.

The final score was almost padded three minutes later as Rahimi’s header on the break clanged down off the crossbar, but stopped just short of crossing the goal line.

But Morocco eventually got its third of the night with Rahimi shooting across goal past Crepeau to put a flourish on the Atlas Lions’ performance.

The post followed comments by the First Lady during an interview in which she said small businesses such as frying akara, roasting corn and producing kuli kuli require relatively little start-up capital.

According to her, the Federal Government is supporting such ventures through grants rather than loans as part of efforts to improve the livelihoods of Nigerians.

“We’re trying to give hope, and to start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or somebody even said kuli kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant,” she said.

The AI-generated image triggered another wave of reactions on X, with many users questioning the decision to publish it.

An X user, , wrote: “Official handle of the president media? This is not comical as it should look. It is utterly ridiculous and grossly insulting. What do these people take us for??”

Another user, , criticised the post, saying: “I hope Nigerians are seeing the man they voted for using them to catch cruise?… A president directly mocking the masses while the economy of the country bites harder with high level of insecurity in the country.”

Similarly, said the post was unhelpful to the administration, writing: “You guys are not helping this president of ours at all… Everybody can’t sell akara and kuli kuli now.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has justified his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio submitted that a progressive-minded person like him, should belong to a progressive family.

According to him, when APC approached him, he discovered that the PDP had been the wrong party for him all along, so he took an early exit and joined the progressives.

Naija News reports that Akpabio gave the fresh revelation on Friday while speaking at the inauguration of access roads to renewed hope cities and estates in Karsana West District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

He said, “A progressive-minded person like me should belong to a progressive family, therefore, when APC come to me, I discovered that was my group and that I was in the wrong party, called PDP. So, I took my exit early and joined the progressives.”

Recall that Senator Akpabio officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on August 8, 2018.

He publicly announced his departure after resigning as the Senate Minority Leader and was formally welcomed to the ruling party during a mega-rally held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.
