π I came across this video today, and I could not stop the tears from falling.
The pain in that young man's voice broke me. As he held onto the kidnapper's hand, begging him not to call his mother, all he could think about was her heart. He knew that hearing such news might destroy her. He begged them not to call his father too, knowing the pain and helplessness his family would feel.
As I listened, my mind traveled back to 2022, a year that forever changed my life and the life of my family. It brought back memories of my elder brother, Ishaku. A loving son. A caring brother. A devoted husband deeply loved by his wife. A proud father of two beautiful daughters. A man with dreams, hopes, responsibilities, and a future ahead of him. Then, in the cruelest way, he was taken from us. Kidnapped. Held captive. And eventually killed.
In one painful moment, a wife lost the love of her life. A mother lost her son. Two beautiful little girls lost their father. And we lost a brother who can never be replaced. There are pains that words can never fully describe, and this is one of them.
The day we received that news, a part of us died too. The tears, the sleepless nights, the unanswered questions, and the unbearable grief are memories that never truly leave. Even today, whenever I hear stories like this or watch videos like this one, the wound opens again. The tears return. The memories return. The pain returns.
Only God knows how my family survived that season. Only God carried us when we had no strength left. Only God comforted us when our hearts were shattered beyond words. I pray that no mother will ever receive such a call. I pray that no wife will lose her husband in such a heartbreaking way. I pray that no child will grow up without a father because of insecurity. π
And for everyone still in captivity, waiting to return home to their loved ones, may God make a way where there seems to be no way.
Nigeria, may this never be the story of another family.
Rest peacefully, my dear brother Ishaku. ποΈ Though you are gone, you will never be forgotten. Your love, your memories, and the impact you made will remain in our hearts forever.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered. β€οΈ
