There are moments in life when you discover your purpose long before everyone else sees it. For me, that moment came when I was about to enter Senior Secondary School One (SS1).
My father had already made up his mind—I was going to study Science. I wrote my entrance examination as a science student, passed as a science student, and he even collected the science prospectus so we could buy all the required textbooks. Everything pointed towards a future in Science.
But deep inside me, there was a different calling.
I had developed a genuine love for Accounting. It wasn't because someone persuaded me or because it seemed easier; it was because I saw myself in it. Numbers, financial records, and the discipline of accounting fascinated me. The more I learnt about the profession, the more convinced I became that it was where I truly belonged.
Despite the expectations around me, I made one of the boldest decisions of my young life. I respectfully refused to join the science class and insisted on becoming a commercial student instead.
At the time, many people might have thought it was just a stubborn teenager making a random choice. But it wasn't stubbornness—it was conviction. It was passion. I chose the path that aligned with my dreams rather than the one others had chosen for me.
Looking back today, I have no regrets. That decision became the foundation of my academic journey and eventually led me to graduate with a degree in Accounting. It taught me an important lesson: when you discover what you are truly passionate about, have the courage to pursue it. Sometimes, the greatest success comes from following the path your heart has known all along.
