"Someone said buns should be smooth like egg roll. I disagree π. To me, a good buns should have that beautiful rough, crunchy exterior and soft fluffy inside. What do you think? Am I right or wrong?"
In my opinion, Buns are not egg rolls. A good buns should have a slightly rough, crackly exterior that gives it that homemade, crispy, and delicious look. π

Many people mistake rough-textured buns for a baking mistake, but that rustic appearance is actually one of the characteristics of traditional buns. A perfectly smooth surface is more common with egg rolls and some other pastries.
